A staple for me
from Seattle, WA
Comments about Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media Boards and Sheets:
These boards have the Strathmore quality to them and are a great, ready-cut surface for painting. I use gouache and ink on them and I love their sturdiness (they take water media very well, no buckling) and standard size. Just grab one out of the pack and paint. Very convenient!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great for colored pencil
By Portrait Artist
from Atlanta, GA
This is the BEST for colored pencil. Enough tooth for many layers, but very smooth effects are possible. I have tried just about every paper out there, and this is absolutely my favorite, especially good with Faber Castell and Lyra oil based pencils. I have also used it for watercolor washes combined with colored pencil, and it performs beautifully.

By Capt Elaine
from Charleston SC
I use this paper to make my own sketchbooks, this paper works great for watercolor, markers, acrylics… whatever your creative spirit moves you to use. Smooth surface is very friendly to fountain pens and brush pens alike. I love this paper.

Surface is too slick
Canvas board or Art Spectrum Colourfix Multi-Media Painting Board is better if you want even a little tooth on the surface.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Canvas Board and Colourfix are unique surfaces in comparison to the Strathmore Mixed Media Boards which are more similar in tooth and appearance to Bristol boards. Great surfaces for traditional drawing techniques and wet media such as inks, markers, and watercolor.

Excellent Art Boards
from St. Cloud, MN
These boards are excellent for everything from drawing & painting with ink to painting with acrylics. They're solid & durable, but not too thick & heavy...just perfect!

A true mixed media paper
I am quite surprised at the lack of reviews for this fine paper. Maybe it is flying under everybody's radar as it was for me until recently.Strathmore has managed to come up with a paper that does just about everything exceptionally well. I have tested too many papers to count in my search for the perfect mixed-media surface, working through many samples, whole sheets, and swatch books from every known manufacturer (Arches, Canson, Fabriano, Legion, etc.) but never finding the perfectly balanced sheet. Along the way, I found many great papers that excel in one or two areas, but this Strathmore sheet is the clear mixed-media winner, by a mile. Here's what I was looking for:-100% cotton, archival-Neutral, clean white color, but without optical brighteners-Surface like drawing paper or Bristol for fine-line drawing-Durable enough to withstand repeated erasure and reworking-Watercolor washes are even and vibrant-Pigment-based markers lay down with minimal banding-No bleeding when inking with a pen-Able to layer color pencilThat is an awful lot to ask of a single paper, and several of those demands are seemingly at odds with each other, but I am happy to report the 500 Series Mixed Media delivers. The surface finish and sizing are perfectly judged, and it is a pleasure to work on a surface that is always ready for whatever I am inspired to work with at the moment. I plan on making this my new standard paper so that I am never left wishing I had drawn something on a different surface when I decide it could use a little color. Please keep in mind that this review is only for the 500 Series paper, which is 100% cotton and probably quite different from the pulp papers in other series. My search for paper is always limited to 100% cotton as longevity and durability is important to me, and the working properties of good cotton paper can't be beat.
