Great for HS
from Bangor, ME
Comments about Strathmore 400 Series Watercolor Paper:
Yes you'll spend a bit more but in my 23 yr of experience teaching HS I have found this paper to be the most versatile for student projects.... in watercolor, ink washes, pastel drawings, etc. When stretched it does not buckle or warp.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

My students love this product!
from Elon, North Carolina
Students use this paper when doing watercolors, so it is strong enough to withstand lots of water and not wrinkle or get holes.

Got this paper in the bulk. good deal, very large, and this paper can certainly take a beating. It works very well with various mediums, from watercolor pencil, ink, and even some paint. I highly recommend it. It may not be the "best" since it is considered more of a "student" paper, but I think it can work quite well for major projects.

An affordable paper for students and professional artists
from Langlois, Oregon
We are using Strathmore Series 400 watercolor paper in our pen and ink & watercolor class at the Art by the Sea Gallery in Bandon, Oregon. Colors lift easily and can be layered without making the dreaded mud. Our students love the way it handles with their .005 and .01 Pigma Micron pens. We are also using a variety of watercolor pencils and crayons, with Lyra's Aquacolor crayons being the current class favorite!

Great when you aren't too keen on having charcoal on your hands when you are out and about or at home.
Wonderful Paper for high school students!

This paper allows for water stretching and will dry flat as a drum if taped and stapled down correctly! Takes rough handling by beginning students and returns to flat, beautiful surface!Surface has a moderate tooth and works well with any water medium. I have purchased so many watercolor papers in the past and have been so disappointed by others that I have their names thumbtacked to my bullitin board next to my desk under the title "Never Buy again!"But this paper is wonderful! Will only buy this in the future for all painting projects!

High quality, low price = excellent choice
from Pacific Coast
I went back and forth between 4 stars and 5 stars. It depends on what you compare it to.This paper has a lovely texture and good weight. It handles a fair amount of water and reworking and lifting. It is a nice bright white color but not glaring white. Lovely deckled edges - wish it was on all 4 sides. Buying it in the half sheets is the most economical way to purchase it and also versatile. Much cheaper than other papers of similar weight and quality.I gave it 4 stars because it does buckle somewhat with lots of water (I don't stretch paper before using it - ever. Maybe pre-stretching would take care of the issue). But for paper of this weight and price that's to be expected. Paper that doesn't buckle at all would cost much, much more.Simply taping the edges all around to a stiff backing goes a long way to limiting the buckling. Overall, this paper is high quality for a very reasonable price. I don't hesitate to use this paper for artwork intended for sale, but I don't worry about the cost if a piece does not turn out. Highly recommended.
