Really good for artists trying out color pencils (prisma color pencils has more coverage and not as waxy as average color pencils). I absolutely love it.

An excellent product

I attend a 3 hour uninstructed life-drawing class weekly. I use you paper with charcoal and white chalk. My work is exquisite. Charcoal is the dark tone the paper is the mid tone, the chalk is the light tone.
Nice bound option
My stand-by for toned paper is Strathmore 500 series charcoal paper in velvet grey. I'm teaching a head drawing class and wanted to teach the tequnique with toned paper and a dark and light value pastel pencil, but I didn't want my students to have to deal with all the loose paper. This toned pad was the answer. I wasn't sure that the value would be right for me since I prefer a sanguine pencil over charcoal, but it's about the same as the velvet grey. The texture is quite smooth. It was hard to tell since the cover drawing has lots of texture. Overall I'm highly satisfied with the product.

I'm using this paper to build my portfolio after seeing so many people using it on Instagram. It great paper, smooth. You just have to get used to how some colors appear. Especially skin tones. Once you get that you should be able to great nice color pieces. I'm not sure how black and white would fair. I've never done one on that paper. I use this paper for my fan art since its mostly bright colors

I love the color of this paper. I just wish it had a little more tooth to it. Still a good sketch book.
These are the BEST for life drawing.

I love toned paper for quick sketches, but, for some reason, all my local art stores charge more for Strathmore's grey paper. I couldn't find it for a decent price anywhere, except in large rolls. I was so glad to find not only did Dick Blick have a great price but in all sizes.
Still my favorite for drawing

I use toned papers for pastels and enjoy being able to use white, charcoal, or graphite pencils on the paper. And this paper has been a great teaching tool for my art classes for drawing values and tones. The pad has a lot of sheets for any number of students and the paper is heavy enough to stand up to erasing and pastel application.

I am loving using these toned sketchbooks, I bought both colors, they are so different to draw and color in, this was my first time trying these sketchbooks, I use colored pencils with these and the colors pop off the page, I love these and will buy again.
