I have been noodling with calligraphy on-and-off most of my life. I've been practing a lot lately with a Lamy Safari 1.5mm and a fountain pen with a flex tip...trying to sharpen up my chops in order to start selling services for wedding invitations. Been practicing on copy machine paper (which is awful)...wife bought me a pad of this, and I'm quite loving it. I haven't tried my dip pens with it yet, but the fountain pens work great...crisp lines and almost no feathering. This may not work so well with dip pens, as I know how those can leave thick pools of ink in their wake...I'll have to see how it fares. For fountain pens (using Noodler's black bulletproof and Higgins Eternal inks), I have no complaints. Price is nice too!

I was excited to try this pad due to its affordable price and being marketed as a calligraphy pad. But it's been absolutely USELESS.

Fountain pen ink, sumi ink, iron gall, India ink, walnut ink, Higgins Eternal even! All feather out and bleed through this paper.

Very disappointed.

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I love this paper! It comes in 50-sheet pads, is acid-free, and is 8 1/2"x 11" in size. Curiously, the pad cover says this has a "wove finish", but it has, in fact, a laid finish. I bought a few pads of this in the 90's and was worried that Strathmore had changed the paper (the pad has a different cover now). But it seems to be the same paper, same laid finish, and it handles fountain pen ink well, without feathering.
