Welcome to dickblick
By combining the characteristics of watercolor paper with the finish of a drawing sheet, Strathmore has created a paper that performs like no other.
Strathmore Mixed Media paper offers true wet media performance on a dry media finish — ideal for any mixed media application, including watercolors, gouache, acrylics, graphite, pen and ink, colored pencils, markers, pastels, collage, and more.
For mixed media sketches, quick studies, and practicing of techniques, this medium-weight, 90 lb (190 gsm) paper features a vellum surface. The sheets are wirebound into a sketchbook format, each pad containing 40 sheets. The micro-perforated sheets are actual size when removed (except for the 5½" × 8½" size). The 5½" × 8½" size is not micro-perforated, but the sheets are actual size when removed at the wire binding.

Comments about Strathmore 300 Series Mixed Media Pads:
I carry one of the A5 sized ones in my bag at all times for sketching. The paper is neither too thick or too thin, the spiral makes it so easy to draw on a flat surface (and the pages don't try to roll out of the bind)I really like these. They are wonderful to sketch on, ink, paint with illustration markers and even watercolor. If anyone wonders about this: Some sketchpads have that punctured line towards the spiral in case you want to cleanly rip off the page from the notebook. These sketchpads don't have that (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Strathmore makes the best papers. I use them for acrylic painting. This is the 300 Series, which is not quite as thick as the 400 Series. I put a coat of gesso on the sheet before I paint which I don't have to do with the 400 Series but I still love this pad.

smooth sailing with this pad!
from Warwick ny
love, love, love this sketchbook! I bought one at a local art store then found them online at dick blick and stocked up! I especially enjoy the results of drawing with a fine pen...like a sharpie. It goes on smooth and has enough thickness to absorb the ink but not wrinkle the paper. I prefer the smallest size they make so I can take it along with me. So good to have around the house for daily drawing. It is similar to bristel board paper without the great expense.

The sketchbooks I ordered are of great quality and are used everyday during the beginning of art class. Your company was able to get them very quickly. I appreciated the extra effort to get them to me!
Great Multi Media Paper for Class Projects
I bought a few of these for our costume rendering part of class. It's great multi media paperthat holds up to a variety of medias and does the job well. The price is great too.I bought a bunch more after having gone through it all last semester.
Great mixed media journal
In order to get my grandkids off the computer, I am getting various art supplies. This journal is the perfect size. The price is great! Works well for use with watercolor, markers and pen.

Resists bleeding, holds up great
from Jersey City, NJ
I've tried both the Canson XL and the Strathmore Mixed Media papers and the Strathmore paper is by far superior. It accepts pen and ink without anything getting caught in the nibs or paper being picked up. A problem I had with the canson paper was markers bleeding through really badly, but the Strathmore paper held up really well to Prismacolor markers, brush pens, and to my relief Sharpies as well with minimal bleed. The paper is thick enough where I can work on both sides of the page without worry. Recently, I've been testing watercolor pencils and the paper accepted small amounts of water without wrinkling or pilling.

The only reason I didn't rate this best in it's category is because I am new to painting and don't have anything to compare to. I used this to paint with acrylics and it held up very well. It blends well, and withstands wetting. It was a fantastic deal compared to some other tablets offering less than half the paper at a higher price. Although the higher priced tablets were heavier quality I felt this held up very well.
