Good quality, not quite white
Comments about Strathmore 300 Series Canvas Paper Pads:
I like these sheets for quick studies. They're easy to cut and durable. The color is not white, it's more of a linen or off white color. This isn't a big issue for me, but for others it might be.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Solid learning material
These are basically a stamped sheet of paper with a canvas like texture and some gesso on the front side. They're a very good and affordable option for learning to use acrylic paint and I still like to keep the pads around for first studies or for testing out new paint or media. These don't seem to warp even when you use a lot of water, tho they're not as good in that respect as some of the genuine cloth canvas pads I've seen. Good value, recommended for students.

I got some of it!
I ordered two items and only got one. Did not see anything about the other item being shipped later. still waiting.
Great for sketches
I use this to make sketches for paintings and master copies. It's an economic way to experiment or use for learning.
I buy this paper every semester.

Not a very good product
from Hernando, Florida
I paint flowers in oils and the only two things I like about these sheets are the smooth texture and the low price. They are not primed and are way too absorbent for oils. If I prime the sheets with a light coat of acrylic paint, they buckle. But, so what? I buy the 12 x 16 inch size, divide the sheets into four 6 x 8 inch squares and practice painting my flowers. Then, the sheet is thrown away.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Great for practicing oil painting.
By Pat H
from Salina, KS
I am just learning to do oil painting and wanted a surface to practice on. I know I won't be saving my paintings for posterity so I wanted something that I could throw away if I made lots of mistakes. This paper is perfect for that. It has a very nice texture that looks like canvas and was very reasonably priced. My only question was if I needed to gesso the surface before using oil paints on it. I decided to try it "as is" and so far the oil paint looks great. It takes several months for oil paint to dry and I have only been using the paper for one month so I will not know for sure for a few more months, but so far the oil has not shown on the back of the paper. The paper can also be used with acrylic paints so when I ran out of room to store the oil paintings while they dry I decided to do some acrylic painting. The paper worked great for that too. I mount my paintings in a journal when done so the paper will be very easy to mount on the journal pages when the oil paint is thoroughly dry. I will definitely buy this product again in the future.
Canvas Paper Pads

I recently discovered that I can use the canvas paper for sewing fabric strips onto the surface and then painting and embellishing the surface. These will be my fabric collage pages for making my book. The canvas paper acts as a support for the fabric and is easy to sew with. I also have been painting the canvas and then glueing papers and embellishing the surface for a mixed media look for another book.
from New Jersey
This canvas paper is very glossy. So glossy that the paint just glides across the paper like nothing. The canvas does not absorb anything and it is extremely difficult to apply thick paint. On the other hand, because of its extremely glossy nature, it is smooth. If that's something you're interested in,you might want to try it. As for the rest of us, I recommend a better brand.
