Stonehenge is the best!
By Moon Shines Brightly
Comments about Stonehenge Drawing Paper Pads:
Stonehenge pads and paper are my absolute favorite. I introduced these papers to my most advanced students last semester. I demonstrated how fantastically Stonehenge papers hold up to the application of layer after layer of watercolor paint without buckling. On one piece, it took six layers of watercolor paint to get the exact blend of colors I wanted. I mixed up extra paint so I would have plenty for the next stage of the process. Then the fun began! I was demo-ing using salt to create a splatter effect. I applied a seventh layer of watercolor paint, sprinkling on the salt as I went. It was allowed to dry prior to removing the salt. It turned out beautifully and without any buckling in the paper whatsoever! This first one was shades of blue, turquoise, and light green. The second one was a background of warm colors that I wanted as intense like fire as I could get them. I repeated the same exact steps as I did the first time and achieved the same splatter effect with absolutely no buckling of the Stonehenge paper. The colors were not as intense as I wanted, so after school that day, I added an extra coat of watercolor paint and salted it again. The next morning when I checked it, the color was more what I wanted but the splatter effect wasn't what I wanted. To remove this layer of salt required some gentle but firm rubbing. After school on this day, I added another layer of the paint and got the color intensity of fire that I wanted and added the salt. The next morning when I checked it, the splatter effect still was not there but after I brushed and rubbed off the salt, what I did get was a fiery background with an awesome sueded feeling to it. All of this was done to this third piece of Stonehenge paper with absolutely NO buckling or warping of the paper! My students were amazed at what this paper could be put through and still look beautiful. On each of these were put block prints of colors that would correspond to its background but not pure black. It was an excellent "teaching moment" about the difference in student-grade materials and artist-grade materials.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Stonehendge is my paper of choice for colored pencil work. I like the fact that it comes in several colors.

Terrific paper for colored pencil or graphite. Sturdy with nice texture. Pen and Ink could be used with it too. With colored pencil you could even use a little solvent to smooth out the color and the paper holds up. Watercolor pencils will work too if you don't wet the paper too much. Nice color tint - white but not too glaring.
Stonehenge Drawing Paper Pad 8"x8"

I have been doing a series of Prismacolor pencil drawings. I typically use the Strathmore 400 series Bristol Vellum for thses drawings, but was reading a book that said that this paper was excellent for Prismacolor pencils as well. Since I had not used it before I wanted to find a reasonable size for testing. I was delighted to find that Blick offers an 8"x8" drawing pad of this great paper. It's a great size for exploring and testing colored pencil techniques, layering colors and trying out some small drawings. So far I am very pleased with the paper for colored pencil drawing. I am also pleased with the prompt service from Blick.

Stonehenge papers are perfect for colored pencil drawings. The paper is deep enough to get lots of color cover to add lots of layers and perfect blending.

My favorite paper
I love that this paper is made in the USA and is 100% cotton. I am a colored pencil artist and this is my absolute favorite paper to work on. The paper is strong and allows for heavy rubbing, erasing, and several layers of colored pencil. I use the back side of the paper, which is slightly smoother than the front.Be aware that the paper is held together with glue in these pads. Every now and then, removing a sheet is really difficult and occasionally the glue rips off a bit on the edge. It does not affect me since I do not color all the way to the edge of the paper, but it might be a great annoyance for others!

Was very surprised after using this paper, kinda skeptical about cotton as paper. Used with soft core pencils (prismacolor premier specifically) the results have been amazing, the ability to layer and blend is fantastic and the stock is a nice thick quality. The only real down side (aside from the price, though it's worth every cent, is this particular surface texture is fairly rough/toothy and will eat those pencils pretty quick like
