Non-photo blue (or non-repro blue) is a common tool used in the graphic design and print industry. It is a particular shade of blue that can not be detected by Graphic Arts Cameras or copiers. This allows artists to lay down sketch lines without the need to erase after inking.
Staedtler's wood-cased pencil produces non-photo blue lines at a great economical price.

Top notch blue pencils
By illustration student
from Columbus, OH
Comments about Staedtler Non-Photo Pencil:
I need these for a lot of my illustration classes, and these are the best ones I've used so far. They work great for the underlying sketch when I need to do an ink drawing and scan it in to color in Photoshop.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Nice but no perfect.
from Marion, KY
These are the first non-photo pencils I've tried, so I can't compare them to other brands, but they work rather well. Easily erasable compared to normal colored pencils, but not as erasable as normal leads. Using copic sketch markers over the blue lines does tend to create a nasty and uneven color, looks almost as if water or something had drip on the paper lightly.
Came in good condition, timely shipping, no complaints

Fantastic must-have product. Thank you for shipping to Australia so quickly and at a reasonable rate.
I use this for sketching, and for anytime I want a light mark. It's always handy to have a non-photo blue pencil in your supply mix.

Superior to ordinary graphite pencils for underdrawing
By I. M. Flaud
from Manhattan, New York
I used to use lead pencils for underdrawings. Staedtler Non-photo blue pencil are superior for this purpose. They don't smudge, they can be erased easily if necessary, and they don't reproduce well. The cyan blue can be filtered out in photoshop trivially. They improved my drawing. They're so good, my competitive artist friends kept them to themselves.
