Welcome to dickblick
These high quality graphite pencils glide smoothly over the paper. They are highly break-resistant and easy to erase. The entire length of the graphite pencil lead is bonded to the wood to help prevent breakage, especially when sharpening.
They're available from Staedtler in finely differentiated degrees from especially soft (8B) to extra hard (6H). Soft leads are best suited to sketching and blending. Harder pencils excel for their ability to hold sharp points, and are used for straight line and detail work.
Pencils are pre-sharpened.
Contains 25 of each pencil, with a range of softer pencils for sketching and drawing, including 8B, 6B, 4B, 2B, B, and HB, Also includes a box of 25 plastic erasers and 6 pencil sharpeners with shavings cups.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST graphite out there!
By Mark T
When I first began drawing, the only thing I knew about was a #2 pencil. My first time in an art store nearly made me fall backwards in discovering how many different grades and brands of graphite pencils there were! Over the years, I've discovered Staedtler from reading several professional artists websites and decided to try them. TOTALLY worth it! They are super consistent in their texture. I don't experience the blotching and chunking like I do when I use other brands of graphite pencils. They also blend REALLY well and their 7B and 8B are FANTASTIC for creating deep, rich darks that you simply can't get from other graphite brands. While graphite is not my favorite media to use and I've actually stopped using graphite for most of my drawings, the Staedtler Lumograph is my "go to" pencil whenever I need or want to use graphite.
The best HB pencils
from Milton, FL
I have found that doing an initial lay in when drawing is best accomplished with an HB pencil... a good one... these pencils make a mark that is dark enough to see, yet light enough to erase if you goof up... My problems over the years with "stiff" drawings I've decided was due to a bad lay in... I am more confident, the drawings are better knowing that if I make a mistake it can be quickly corrected...
Really good pencils for illustration
from New York, NY
I bought these pencils for fashion illustration but they are also really good for other things. I grow up using those pencils for school and I can say they do belong to the best pencils that are out there. If you need basis pencils for math or so I do not thing that you need the entire set but if you are planning on doing some designing and shading than the entire set would be perfect for you.
Not what I expected
By professional artists
The Lumograph 8B was not what I expected. I love the higher B graphite pencils and usually use woodless graphite pencils for their smooth, dark lay down. I was looking for a dark and soft pencil with a wood coating because the woodless graphite pencils I usually enjoy were sure to break if I were to drop them on the concrete where I was to be drawing. The Lumograph 8B is more like a charcoal pencil than a graphite pencil to me. It is dark but it is not smooth. It does not glide the way I expect a graphite 8B to. It is not as smudgy and smeary as charcoal but it grabs at the paper in the same way as a charcoal pencil does. Not what I was looking for.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Will keep buying these pencils
By Mom to an artist
My daughter uses these pencils for drawing portraits and she absolutely loves them! You can definitely tell the ones she uses the most as they wear down to stubs quickly with repeated sharpening. However, they are fairly priced and can be replaced individually without having to purchase a whole set. I am so thankful I found the Dick Blick website and these pencils! Thank you Dick Blick for a great selection of art supplies for the aspiring artist in my family!

I teach high school drawing, and these are the favorite pencils of my advanced classes. They are smooth for drawing and shading, and we have less problems with breakage compared to other brands.
