Welcome to dickblick
These high quality graphite pencils glide smoothly over the paper. They are highly break-resistant and easy to erase. The entire length of the graphite pencil lead is bonded to the wood to help prevent breakage, especially when sharpening.
They're available from Staedtler in finely differentiated degrees from especially soft (8B) to extra hard (6H). Soft leads are best suited to sketching and blending. Harder pencils excel for their ability to hold sharp points, and are used for straight line and detail work.
Pencils are pre-sharpened.
Contains 25 of each pencil, with a range of softer pencils for sketching and drawing, including 8B, 6B, 4B, 2B, B, and HB, Also includes a box of 25 plastic erasers and 6 pencil sharpeners with shavings cups.

Smooth precise shading that's fun to use.
By C A Doodles
These pencils are great for all levels.
My new favorite pencils

The hard lead in these pencils allows for a good, sharp point that stays sharp. Great for detailed graphite work where a sharp point is necessary. They sharpen faster, you don't waste as much when sharpening so therefore, they last longer.
Non glare shading

Love the non-glare of the softer pencils when shading. Smooth graphite and easily blended

Always in love with this pencils
from Allen, TX
I purchased a few pencils (3B, 5B, 7B and 9B), I was quite surprised at the difference from the 8B (which I already had) to the 9B! 8B left me a bit unsatisfied, thanks to the shine it gives to my drawings, and yes, the color is near black, but as in working with charcoal with a shine. The difference I notice with 9B is that it's, of course, quite softer, covers greatly and treats paper much better than 8B without compromising depth. I'm already loving it. As far as the brand goes, I started using their red/black line back in my country, finding this blue line was a big big improvement. I really love Staedtler and enjoy using them all the time.
Very smooth and nice but NOT jet black...
from Fort Lauderdale, FL
In my constant search for a jet black drawing instrument that doesn't leave me totally covered in a drift of charcoal dust, I tried this pencil...VERY smooth! Nice fat graphite core (seems about 2x thicker than your typical pencil's graphite). I've been carrying one of these pencils for note-taking just because I enjoy writing with it so darn much. One thing: the color IS NOT JET BLACK. It's a nice rich, dark gray. The ONLY truly jet black pencil I've found is the Staedtler Lumograph 9B. So, while enjoyable for what it is, this pencil doesn't live up to its name. I guess Prismacolor Nice Smooth Dark Gray (Not Black) was shot down by the Prismacolor marketing department...?
new carbon pencil
These draw smoothly. These are different than the old one from late (bet 2005-10). Shade very well also.

awesome for sketching.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST graphite out there!
By Mark T
When I first began drawing, the only thing I knew about was a #2 pencil. My first time in an art store nearly made me fall backwards in discovering how many different grades and brands of graphite pencils there were! Over the years, I've discovered Staedtler from reading several professional artists websites and decided to try them. TOTALLY worth it! They are super consistent in their texture. I don't experience the blotching and chunking like I do when I use other brands of graphite pencils. They also blend REALLY well and their 7B and 8B are FANTASTIC for creating deep, rich darks that you simply can't get from other graphite brands. While graphite is not my favorite media to use and I've actually stopped using graphite for most of my drawings, the Staedtler Lumograph is my "go to" pencil whenever I need or want to use graphite.
