Love These Pencils
By budding artist
from San Jose
Comments about Staedtler Ergosoft Colored Pencil Sets:
I use these colored pencils when I am coloring in my coloring books. I love the plastic case that protects the pencils while not in use, and then transforms into a stand when in use. The colors are great - there is a nice variety. I also like the triangular shape of the pencils so they don't roll off of the table. I will definitely purchase these pencils again.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Just o.k. for me
from Austin, TX
When I purchased theseparately pencils I thought I would be getting some deep rich colors, but I'm not using a sketch book, used for coloring in adult coloring books. This color be the reason I'm not getting the deep rich color I'm after. They are more like pastels colors. They also have a waxy feeling. On a positive note, they don't roll off the table and the lead is sturdy. I will continue to use them as I'm not able to return them.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Love these for sketching!
By SL Brown

My search for the perfect travel sketching pencils is over. :) I got the set of 24, and they will live in my purse always. They lay down sooo smoothly. The feel is almost like crayon, but the finished appearance is much like Faber Castell Polychromos! They build and layer beautifully (even in my inexpensive "go everywhere" Canson Universal sketchbooks, which do not have a lot of tooth), and most of the colors (especially the black!) erase completely with both kneaded and power (white) erasers. The case turns into a stand and is hard-sided. I predict that these are going to be a hit at the next colored pencil society meeting! My only nitpicks: the white isn't good. No surprise. The only white I like is the Caran d'Ache Luminance at almost 4x the price. And I wish there were 1-2 more earth tones, but overall, they are far better than I expected and perfect for the purpose I got them for. I am sharpening them with a manual 2 hole Staedler sharpener because I don't care for a triangular point. Very happy that Dick Blick is starting to carry more Staedler products (now please start carrying their pigment liners and I won't have to shop anywhere else!)

I love these pencils, they are the best of all I have tried. They feel very good in my hands, and the colors are great.

Excellent colored pencils

The selection of colors is the best I've had. The softness makes for intense colors, you don't have to press down on the pencil like you do with some other brands.

I started using these pencils for my art classes in college and I have never looked back! One problem with other pencils is the black develops a hazy, oily film. Staedtler stays crisp & bright, even after 30+ years. (And I have done nothing special to preserve my artwork!) Staedtler truly stands the test of time.

ok for simple color artwork...
from new joysie...
well, as far as creating serious art, i'd look for better [more expensive] colored pencils...faber-castell, prismacolor, derwent, etc...those are much more workable and expressive tools for serious artists...i'm partial to f-b myself...however, the price is very affordable for these staedtler basic 12 and 24 pencil sets and they are of somewhat higher quality than a set one would buy at a school supply outfit... i'm not very happy with the 12 pencil set i bought as far as what i can do with them, but nor did i expect much at this price and just needed a simple colored pencil set for drawing on greeting cards [birthday, nameday, and various holidays]; primarily for my niece...it did its job but i've just ordered a 36 piece f-b set which i'll be using for that purpose from now on and some light art drawing...my art years are past me but i still have my old 100+ sets [each by derwent/pastel pencils, and f-b] i had purchased about 12 years ago in case i'd suddenly feel like doing more 'serious art'...however, i wouldn't use those more professional color pencils for doodling light art on greeting cards, 'cause that would be a waste imho...i'd consider either one of these staedtler sets [12 or 24] as at the low end of artist grade quality tools...thus i would in fact recommend it to a friend but with a major caveat emptor as far as expectations are concerned...it's worth its price, nothing more imho...
