Comments about Speedball Speedy-Cut Carving Blocks:
Terrible. Crumbles, cracks. You name the flaw, it does it. Might be good for lettering, but anything involving detail, don't bother. Waste of money.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I hand carve my Holiday cards every year and the Speedball Speedy-Cut Carving Blocks have made it so much easier. I used to use linoleum blocks but find the ease of these blocks faster and safer. The one thing I have to be careful is not to make too many thin areas can they can break off when rolling or cleaning - the linoleum block is sturdier in that regard.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Better than expected

I've used many different brands of rubber blocks and find this brand works much better for me. I recently ordered Speedy Carve and threw one of these in the order so I could try it and now wish I would've ordered more of these instead of the pink blocks. I was able to carve detail and I didn't find it crumbly at all. You do have to be careful it doesn't split but I don't carve deeply into my block so it's not a problem. I hope they don't discontinue these for any reason since the price is perfect. Speedy-Cut will be my go-to rubber block from now on when I'm not using traditional lino.

Great for carving handmade stamps. This product was the size I needed at a reasonable cost.

Not terrible, but not great.

Like other reviews said, this product crumbles when carved, but your experience with these blocks will vary depending on what you're using them for. They cut like butter, which can either be beneficial or detrimental depending on your skill and experience with carving. I would not recommend these blocks for beginners, students, or kids, because they cut so easily that beginners can VERY easily ruin their entire project with one accidental slip of the cutting tool. You can carve deeply into the blocks, but you HAVE to carve deep if you want finer details, so your pieces can't be that complicated. I wasn't personally as frustrated by this product as some other people were, but I also wouldn't purchase this in bulk going forward. I needed to carve a lot of stamps in a short amount of time, so this was great for me, but I also bought these blocks knowing that they'd eventually crumble apart and I would have to carve my stamps again. This is the sort of block you buy when you're strapped for both money and time and don't mind if you need to remake your stamps again later with a better quality block.

Why do you need these if you make something as excellent at the pink Speedy Carve pads? For my purposes these are too soft. Way too soft. They don't allow for enough detail in design for my purposes as a result. Unless I'm missing something, the speedy carve pink pads are soft enough for any child old enough to be allowed to use sharp tools to make art and they afford much more detail as a child becomes capable of such.

The block is really easy to carve. It doesn't take much effort and if you need a stamp on the fly for a project, this Speedy-Cut block comes in handy. It may be the material but compared to another one I've tried, this tends to leave behind some "shavings." At first I thought it would be a problem but they came off easily when I brushed the surface.Because it's a soft block, you'll have to get the hang of how much or how little pressure you put on your carving tool. If you dig too deeply, it's possible to pull out more than you intended to which might ruin your design. The other great thing about it is that you can use both sides of the block so it's like you have two for the price of one.
