My FIRST time carving a block...and it was easy with this material. I got wonderful help and advice from Blicks' 'technical' folks...

Speedball's Speedy Carve blocks offer the beginning block printing student an opportunity for success. The material carves like butter and produces a carved block that prints beautifully. They are also great for more experienced artists...quick to carve, durable blocks.

easy to cut and great for detail
from Chicago, IL
I had been using the cheaper soft-kut carving blocks, but they were so soft that it was almost impossible to get fine detail. The speedy carve material is more expensive, but a HUGE improvement in quality. It is just as easy to cut, but you get much greater control.

2nd only to Moo Carve blocks
This carving block is excellent and I'd rate it second only to Moo Carve blocks which are denser but just as easy to cut.
So nice to carve!

The blocks are so smooth and easy to carve on, even a beginner can make beautiful blocks to print with.
Great carving material!
Easy to carve, without shredding. Crisp image stamping. I love that you can use both sides.
These are my favorites

I use the pink pads as well as linoleum for my block printing. I use a variety of media from embossing powder to water and oil based inks on a variety of substrates: japanese papers, speedball block printing papers and other cotton fiber papers from various european manufacturers. These are absolutely the best in their class. I've tried every single brand of rubber and similar student grade blocks on this site for example and for ease per cut as well as receptivity to hand pressing, brayer pressing and that little hand presser speedball makes (which I also use and love)nothing comes close. They also store well. Other blocks in their class have stuck together, not these. And they very very rarely crumble. I hate crumbling. Just hate it.I always take mine out of the plastic wrapping and keep them for a few weeks for a month in the air so they can harden up just that little bit that makes the difference. Then they go into their plastic storage boxes with air holes in them.
