A hard synthetic rubber roller (80 durometer) makes these brayers ideal for light carving or gluing applications, and excellent for rolling down print surfaces. The black roller is 4" (10 cm) wide. The core unit will not shrink or swell from immersion.
Both Deluxe Brayers feature a durable plastic comfort-grip handle. A free craft tip usage guide is also included.
Hard Rubber Pop-In Brayer
This brayer’s 4" wide hard rubber roller pops out for easy cleaning, and also accommodates other Pop-In replacement rollers.

Exactly what I needed
Comments about Speedball Hard Rubber Brayers:
I bought this roller to help with refurbishing a trunk with embossed metal. It is exactly what I needed and will make the work so much easier and neater than if the details had to be done by hand.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Easy to wash
from Dallas, texas
This is great to use with waterbased inks by blick. Super easy to wash.

I normally use the pop-in brayers, but I decided to give these a try as I thought they might be more durable. Out of the 9 I ordered, two were defective and would get stuck when rolling, causing the ink to smear. I went ahead and returned them and Blick made it very easy and hassle-free. I will reorder the plastic pop-in brayers next time.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I do block printing with my second grade students, and a good brayer is essential.
Nice, usable but off center

I use brakes to print small linocuts, and like having several sizes and types at hand. This 4 inch roller is very useful. Core of roller, under the hard rubber, seems to be wood, not sure. But I use water-cleanup oil based inks, so I hope this does not swell up. Also, the rubber is not centered on the core side to side, though this does not affect it's use. Rolls fine.

Fell apart during first use.

I love all the speedball products that we have in our classroom and ordered these brayers. I bought five of these and the metal prongs have fallen out of each one we have tried to use. the other problem we are having is the ends seem to be bigger than the middle so ink is not getting on the middle of the brayer to get onto the printing surface.I will be ordering the soft brayers now instead, which I believe are the ones I already owned and liked. Sad that we have 5 brand new unusable brayers.
Merchant response: We're sorry that these brayers haven't lasted for you. One of our Customer Care Representatives will be in touch to take care of this for you.

Easy to clean and can be used with all ages and skill level.
broken after two uses

I thought that these would be of high quality, given the Speedball brand name. I purchased them for my middle school art classes. After two days of use (under close supervision), the metal "prongs" that hold the roller in place fell out on two rollers. I haven't checked the others yet to see how they are faring. A real disappointment.

Experienced User Meets Bad Equipment
By Dee the Printmaker-Signmaker
I use brayers for mostly printmaking lino and woodcuts, but I also need hard rubber rollers for applying transfer tape for vinyl signage. This roller does NOT hold upto pressure at all. The metal hinge/roll holders that attach to the inner wooden core do not stay in, they keep popping out, the rubber on the wood, as I am moving left to right horizontally rolling, moves off the wood core. I will no be buying this again, I thought it would be more sturdy. It is unuable.

An excellent tool

I remembered Speedball from my youth, and bought this brayer for gluing art pieces. It's a wonderful tool -- as good as I remembered it -- sturdy, smooth operation, effective, and very well made. Thrilling to see that it's still made in the USA and it makes me happy to use it. Better for my arthritic hand and elbow too.
