Speedball Ceramic Underglazes feature bright and intense colors that are highly saturated for spectacular results. These underglazes are compatible with Speedball Earthenware Glazes, and can be used for a variety of decorating techniques. They may be applied to greenware or bisque and can be blended. The liquid, opaque colors will not move or bleed, making them perfect for detailed painting, design work, and sgraffito. Because they’re lead-free and clean up easily with water, they are ideal for classroom use.

These underglazes are dinnerware safe when used and fired as directed. However, tableware producers should have finished ware lab tested to determine dinnerware suitability due to firing variances and contamination.

Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.

I teach art classes for kids grades 2-7th, these are very reliable and provide a terrific variety. I mix some of my own colors using them and they always turn out as expected. I highly recommend them.

I use these at cone 10-11 in reduction (I dont use every color but have had no failures). They produce true colors, a a solid taxtile surface and look great glazed or unglazed. I like to use them on leatherhard and then come back and touch up on bisque. I start on leatherhard because they absorb so easily into bisque, i dont get to mix them on my work as I paint. Blk copper Ox looks great in textures underneath, just dont cover it much as this underglaze is super opaque.
PS of course these work just as well in oxidation and at lower temperatures.
