Speedball Ceramic Underglazes feature bright and intense colors that are highly saturated for spectacular results. Compatible with Speedball Earthenware Glazes, they can be used for a variety of decorating techniques. They can be applied to both greenware and bisque and can be blended. Originally designed to perform in a wide firing range (Cone 06-6), they can be successfully fired at Cone 10.
The liquid, opaque colors will not move or bleed, making them perfect for detailed painting, design work, and sgraffito. Because they're lead-free and clean up easily with water, Speedball Earthenware Glazes are ideal for classroom use.
These underglazes are dinnerware safe when used and fired as directed. However, tableware producers should have finished ware lab tested to determine dinnerware suitability due to firing variances and contamination.

Speedball Underglazes- The Best!
By Black Dog Swagger
from Atlanta Georgia
Comments about Speedball Ceramic Underglazes:
Speedball underglazes never let me down and they are priced so much better than their competitors. I do a lot of work where I waste the underglaze, whether using it as a stain or with sgraffito, where you cut away the underglazed area. Having a reliable underglaze that is affordable as well is a must!
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

These are the best undeglazes on the market. The colors are vibrant and go on solid. The red is especially nice but seems to need an additional layer of glaze.
Right product for the classroom
By Mr. J
This is the right product for the classroom. It is dependable and has a wide firing range. The price is right for the classroom and they work well with one two or three coats which makes them very forgiving. You need a clear overglaze to make your pieces functional. They mix and blend well too.
good product, great price
It holds it color at cone 7 electric firing under our studio clear and it's much more reasonable than it's competitors. I field a lot of complaints but haven't had one in the two years of use about the speedball underglazes. Their price makes them an affordable 'freebee' for our 30+ studio potters. Some of the colors can be a little watery but their fired color comes out just fine.

I use the underglazes with students I teach. The colors are vibrant and fire well.Best of all was the careful way Blick packaged and shipped my items. The bottles were wrapped with bubble wrap and double-wall shipped. Not a drop spilled. I was very impressed.

Fantastic Value and Firing Range!

Speedball underglazes are great for all levels of ceramic work. I love the coverage they provide (sometimes I can get away with 2 coats for even coverage), plus they are the best price I have found on the market! Dick Blick has a great selection and price, I will definitely continue to buy Speedball underglazes through Dick Blick for many years to come. Also, they are great in midrange to high temperauture. I fire to cone 5 and they stay very bright and true to color.

I love Speedball underglazes, they're the only ones I use in my studio. The colors are always nice and bright, and they blend together very smoothly which is great for ombré effects or more painterly designs. The colors stay true at every temperature I've fired them to (usually cone 10).
