This is the fixative you've been waiting for!
Non-toxic, workable, and fully archival, SpectraFix is a casein-based fixative that utilizes milk protein and grain alcohol to hold and protect your media without dulling or darkening colors. Because it's all-natural and odor-free, you can spray your project indoors while you work — no more odors, unhealthy fumes, or long waits outdoors!
Endorsed by artists, teaching professionals, and educators alike, SpectraFix easily disperses a fine cloud of fixative mist over artwork, leaving colors brilliant without altering the hue. It dries quickly to an invisible, non-yellowing, matte finish, and provides traction to allow multiple layering of pastels.
SpectraFix is ideal for use with pastel, charcoal, watercolor, gouache, Conté crayon, casein, under oil paints, and for crossover techniques. It works beautifully on all popular papers, including Wallis, ColorFix, La Carte, Pastelbord, UArt, Gatorfoam, Canson, and all watercolor, printing, and laid papers.
SpectraFix comes in a non-pressurized fine-mist pump sprayer that’s environmentally friendly, recyclable, and travels well.
Conforms to ASTM D-4236.

Comments about SpectraFix Spray Fixative:
It works! Though don't try to spray multiple sketchbook pages at once or they will stick together. Used on graphite drawings.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Works well, sprayer could be improved
from Fort Myers, FL
Does a good job of fixing pastel but the bottle's sprayer should be improved so it doesn't have occasional droplets fall on your painting
best fixative I've ever used
By Paul Torres
from Alhambra, Ca
This spray works better than any spray I've ever used in a all my life, it's non toxic, permanent and its also a final fixative,I can work on top with color pencil if I choose, and or work with oils on top , it doesn't discolor, I highly recommend it to everyone , the very best, please keep making it :)
Handy for travel and healthier too.
Effect is similar to aerosol workable fix, though may take a wee bit longer to dry. Slight alcohol smell, but not offensive or lingering.
don't use with thin papers
from san rafael, ca
I sprayed charcoal drawings with thin coats and it caused the paper to buckle considerably. Don't use on thin paper. I would recommend using paper that is 90lb or up.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with this fixative. Because thin papers may be sensitive to the water content of this product, the manufacturer suggests using a hair dryer to correct curling or buckling. As with any fixative, testing with your specific substrate is always advised prior to spraying finished work. If you ever have questions on a product or its application, we hope you'll feel welcome to reach out to our Product Information Team. Better than most.
from Traverse City, Mi.
Does a good job of covering my work and dries without many discernible droplet smudges, though it does drip a little when spraying. Does not seen to darken the artwork as other sprays have done. For me, it's a keeper.

Does its job well
from NW WA
Used on pencil and charcoal drawings to prevent smudging. Works well. Curls my cheap sketchbook paper, but it flattens out with time. Curling can be reduved by setting weights on page or taping down. I'm really sensitive to chemicals due to immune disorder, I use this inside and it doesn't seem to bother me much. It leaves drips on the page if I don't press plunger down with zeal.In the past I have sprayed skim milk and almond milk thru an airbrush to fix graphite drawings. Skim milk is more effective but both work. Spectrafix is more effective than either, though more expensive. Longer shelf life is worth the cost to me.

Great Non Toxic Fixative
By Pastel Artist
from British Columbia
I bought this product to use for my soft pastel drawing. I couldn't stand using the toxic fixative (which lists health hazards on the bottle) and needed something I could use indoors. This product really works, is non toxic and odor free. I found misting my pastel paintings twice (with drying time between)at about 16 inches away worked better than trying to mist at 6-8 inches as with traditional aerosol fixatives. If you spray from too close, it gets your paper very wet and can warp it. Misting farther away gets an even coating and doesn't leave your paper sopping.I definitely recommend this product to anyone who cares about their health, the environment and wants a n alternative that works!

Mixed feelings about this product
from Pendleton, SC
I LOVE that it is odorless. Wish it sprayed a fine, even mist. Instead it comes out in mist and drops! If this could be corrected, it would be a great product.
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us! Many users find that they have to be very liberal in their application of this fixative, "wetting" the surface so that it dries evenly. If you have any questions on the application, please feel welcome to contact our Product Information Department at 1-800-933-2542 or email@example.com. We're happy to offer tips and suggestions!

Non-toxic, doesn't change color, re-workable
from Ocras, WA
Make sure you're mixing concentrate with pure alcohol (rubbing alcohol will do). Don't use the spray on thin paper, it will buckle. Probably over 90lb is where it will be ok. But test it before you spray the artwork! It's important to not overspray - keep distance from the art piece, so that the spray hits it with a mist. It's better to spray lightly in a few rounds than trying to cover it all in one go. Note that if you spray it too much in one go it WILL change color!Keep in mind, this fixative does not fix it permanently, so you still have to handle your work with care. But it does a great job at keeping all charcoal and pastel in place and makes it ready for archiving (under glassine) and framing.
