I've been using these for a few years now as my primary brushes for acrylic and oil. I prefer the short handle ones but I have many of the long handle variety also in the larger sizes. These brushes have great stiffness and an excellent spring to them, second only to the Bristlon series by Silver. Although Bristlon is stiffer, Ruby Satin has thinner filaments and higher loading capacity.

I tend to be very rough with my brushes, so one of my favorite qualities about both these and the Bristlon series is that they are virtually indestructible. The filaments have good heat and solvent resistance, better than other synthetics, and like all Silver brushes they have triple epoxied construction so you can soak them in harsh solvents without worry of the ferrule coming unglued.

One time I accidentally left a Ruby Satin brush out with catalyzed polyurethane in it, by the time I realized what had happened the thing was ROCK HARD all the way from the tip to the ferrule. I thought the brush was toast for sure but I gave it a try, soaked it in Methyl Ethyl Ketone and DMSO, intermittently jamming the brush against the wall of the glass jar to help it loosen the material, and sure enough after several days it was good as new. The next day I went out and spent several hundred dollars on Ruby Satin brushes because I knew they would last forever, no other brush can stand up to the kind of abuse these can take. For that reason they are a great value even though they are more expensive than other synthetics.

If you like a brush that doesn't wilt under the weight of paint, yet retains its spring and flexibility, the Ruby Silver filberts and rounds are for you! (I've not worked with the brights and flats, so no comment there.) I like to apply paint and move it around for texture and blending, so I find that these brushes perform exceptionally well given my preferences in working with oils and acrylics.
