Welcome to dickblick
A blend of natural squirrel hair and black synthetic filament combines to provide excellent carrying capacity with control, spring, and precise pointing. Black Velvet brushes are full bodied, with a wonderful snap. Use them with watercolor, silk painting, inks, dyes, acrylics, and gouache.
A polished black ferrule crimps the hair and is fitted to a gloss black handle.

Large Jumbo Mop sheds
from Seattle, WA
Comments about Silver Brush Black Velvet Jumbo Round Series 3025:
I bought this as a cheaper mop brush alternative. I have not used this to date as a mop brush without having to pick at least two or three hairs from a wet wash after using it. I've stopped using this as my main mop brush because I don't want to keep getting hair in my watercolor even months after buying it. Yes, I rinsed the gum Arabic out and I can even tap the brush when it's dry and have a hair or two fall out.Maybe I got a bum brush, but the only good thing I can say is that it does hold a bucket of water. However, because of this issue, I use either my Neptune squirrel mop brush or my Black Gold Jumbo Quill. This brush, is relegated to my brush graveyard.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Smooth and thirsty, but not very pointy
from Mt. Shasta, CA
My Black Velvet Jumbo Round (medium) will hold a bucket of water and it's as smooth as silk, but mine doesn't have anything like the nice, tight point of the brushes shown in the picture. I figured it would point better once I used it and the gum arabic washed out, but after three uses, it hasn't improved.I own four Black Velvet rounds and I think they're wonderful brushes. They spring back nicely (better than all-squirrel brushes) and release paint very smoothly. Unfortunately, the Jumbo Round will probably not get a lot of use (I'll likely buy a #18 or #20 round instead). If I painted really large projects I might feel differently. Overall, the Black Velvets are wonderful, but the point on your Jumbo Rounds might not be as sharp as those shown in the picture. If detail work is important to you, then consider buying a large round or even the oval wash instead.
Merchant response: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with this brush. It's true that the Jumbo Round is not the best choice for detail. Holds a TON of water, and tapers to a nice sharp point. All in all, it's essentially perfect.
My new favorite brush

I am learning to use watercolor paints and started out using some really cheap brushes. After reading several books on watercolor, most if not all the books mentioned you should buy the best paints and brushes. Well I couldn't afford the sables, so I found this brand and bought a jumbo brush. This brush made a huge difference in my results, I really do love how the brush holds a ton of water/paint. The strokes are very velvety and the brush holds its shape.
Great big wonderful brushes
By Mixed Media Junkie
I had been looking for soft, thirsty, jumbo water color brushes. These are the biggest I have now and I love them. No need for me to look any further.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE
I can't yet say this brush is better than alternative brushes because I'm new to watercolor. But I can say it helps me do some very lovely washes, is easy to clean, holds its shape, and snaps to a nice point. The price wasn't gruesome, and I've read reviews from respected artists who love this black velvet line of brushes. There's the voice of experience! But I can say with authority, it's a great brush for a beginner too!
Jumbo v round
I like the rounds better than the jumbo rounds because they have a better point
smooth as silk
from South Carolina
I can't say enough about how smooth these brushes are! I'm using them for large watercolor projects and i love them. They hold a good amount of water and deliver it smoothly and the tip is really nice for jumbo rounds. I bought a smaller #8 round by itself just to test them out and o purchased 8 others after that experience. The oval and rounds both perform really nicely on all the paper types i use 300lb rough, cold, and hot press. I tried them on a sample of yupo and they flowed really well. They hold water nicely and deliver it evenly without having to soak up a ton of water to load them.
I love these set of brushes
from Ann Arbor, MI
Just starting in watercolor painting, I have watched many video's, I have plenty of brushes from dabbling in arts and crafts, but I knew I needed something better. I started looking around, took about 2 weeks to watch vid's, compare prices, see what other artists are using. These are the brushes I chose, and I'm very happy with my purchase. I can't affort 90 dollars a brush, maybe down the road, but until I do, I will be babying and enjoying these brushes.
