Sometimes you gotta make a choice between top quality and budget materials. I think these boards are top quality and a good value. You can see that the manufacturer uses way better materials, so the boards are naturally more expensive...like the gatorboard which is light but is much stronger than normal foam board, so it won't bend in half on me when painting on it or warp later on. Gator is really hard to cut precisely so it'd be a PITA to try and make these at home (ha good luck w that!) I also like the choice of smooth linen, I can't find that available on gatorboards elsewhere. And for those who care they are totally made in the U.S., cool. Overall very happy with hi quality & value...works for me.

I have used this product for plein air work in oils and acrylics. Good painting surface, and I LOVE the weight, especially on long hikes or portages, but compared to other plein air solutions, this product is way, way too expensive!
Also, it is too expensive from another perspective, when you consider it is just light canvas glued to cheap foamboard. I now make my own, and save big bucks.
