Good paper at a decent price
from Alexandria, VA
Comments about Shizen Handmade Paper by the Pound:
I'm using this paper in some leather-bound journals I'm making. The paper has a good feel to it, accepts dry media well, and you'd have trouble beating the price.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I always look forward to this assortment of interesting papers for students in my book arts classes.
Beautiful Paper, wish you could choose a style
By Carter Gal
I first bought a 1/2 pound assorted package of these and I was unsure at first because they are very wild on some of the designs. I use these for scrapbooking and I have become to love them and use them very frequently. I then bought two pounds of the smaller size 8x11 because I loved the paper so much. My only complaint is that it comes with some papers that I would simply consider construction paper. If they had a design on them I would have no complaints and most of the paper is very beautiful, There is a repetition with poka dots and lines but it includes sparkles, velvet prints, regular screen printing designs even some marble looking paper that was my favorite. All in all I love this paper and will buy more when I am running low.

Beautiful paper and a nice weight. Feels more like a cotton rag paper. Great for collage. Odd odor however.

Such a great versatile material for kids!
from New York, NY
I am a teaching artist who works with K-12 students and these handmade papers are now a staple for my institution. They are fantastic materials for collage projects. Students of all ages respond to the patterns and some papers even contain extra special tactile qualities like flocking, metallic prints, glitter or even interwoven threads. This paper has a cottony feel and tends to be thick in weight. I especially like that this material comes pre-cut in classroom friendly sizes (3x 5ish) or is available in full sheets too.
Fun Decorative Paper

Love the variety of designs on this paper. I also appreciate that there is more than one of each design in the pack. I am using this paper to bind blank journals and it is essential that I have at least two of each design in order to make covers.

We're going to use these papers for making clamshells and recovering books, so some of the patterns won't be appropriate. Most of the patterns are nice. There was a weird smell to the paper that still hasn't dissipated.
Pretty but Stinky
from California, USA
I got this to glue light pieces of embossed metal onto for mixed media artwork. The thickness of the paper is good for that. Unlike some other reviewers, I was very happy with the variety of designs I got. No plain, boring papers. If anything, a couple weren't plain enough. I think the price is good for the quantity and quality of the paper. I knock it down a star, though, because it has a strong chemical smell to it - probably the paint some of the designs appear to have on them.

Notso worth it
from Pleasanton, CA
I'd read a lot of the reviews for this paper, so I knew going in that it would probably be a gamble. Yup, it was... and I lost. There are two sheets in the pack that are kind of interesting-- they're a deeply embossed all-over pattern. All of the colors in my pack are pretty unusable (and I don't just mean they weren't to my taste (they're not that either)) -- four sheets alone have been spray painted in a gold metallic paint, like the gold paint in paint pens. They are extremely splotchy and bleeding thru to the back. Two other sheets in the pack were a sort of faux flocking thing and had to be carried to the trash right away because they were covered in glitter and getting all over. I *hate* glitter. I thought I might be able to just paint over the remainder of the pack, but all of them are covered in glitter as well, from the ones I tossed. I wouldn't have bothered with a negative review on this paper except it's just expensive enough that I felt a tad burned (not enough to ask for a refund). These papers aren't anything close to the charm/coolness of the pictures. I really think they need to sort things into color families so you have a better shot at getting something for your dollars. Glitter and gold needs to be in their own category, far far away from me.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
