With Shelfhelp lightweight aluminum shelves, you can expand the working area of virtually any French box easel. Each shelf is made to attach to most common-sized easels and up to two shelves will fit handily inside most French easels.
Shelfhelp is great if you’ve ever wished for more workspace on your easel or found yourself stuffing art materials in your pockets. Outdoor artists have long complained of "nowhere to put things down!" when working outside the home or studio. The Shelfhelp shelf attaches easily and has a slotted edge that conveniently holds up to 10 brushes and comes with a plastic brush holder and two adjustable elastic straps to hold the brush holder and other tools. There’s even a hook for a plastic trash bag.
It weighs only 16 oz and comes in right or left hand models. Use both for triple the work space. Equally handy whether you paint with oils, watercolor or other media — outdoors or in your studio. In the words of the inventor, long-time sculptor (and now painter) George Henson, "Help yourself to a Shelfhelp."
™ Shelfhelp is a trademark.

Great product, works well.

Comments about Shelfhelp:
The shelf works great! It hooks onto my easel easily and is solid enough to hold some brushes and a can of thinner. It is light weight so is easy to carry and fits inside the box of my french easel. My only criticism is that the shelf only fits onto the easel in one place. If they made a small alteration to the design, you could attach it in different locations adding to its use. But I would stll recommend it, as it greatly expands your working area in the field.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great for extending your working space.
from Chattanooga, TN
The shelves are useful in extending the working space of your French easel, and placing brushes, paints, mediums and solvents in accessible reach.

No regrets!! LOVE it!
from Washington, DC
I was really afraid after reading some of the negative posts about Shelf Help but was elated to find it is not only easy to figure out how to put it on the easel...it is NOT Flimsy! Don't know what others are talking about regarding this not being a great product. Went outside with my art group to do some painting last weekend and everyone was marveling at my Left and Right Shelf Help and thought, like I do, that this is a super product. Do not hesitate to buy this. You will be pleased! **Easy to lay your paintbrushes down and not have them roll off due to the little built in ledges on the edge of the Shelf Help. Gives me plenty of room to spread out and enjoy outdoor painting!

Shelfhelp works with the Blick French Ea
from Austin, TX
I ordered the Shelphelp even though I think it's a little expensive. I checked with the Blick people first though to be sure it would fit on the Blick French Easel. There were some reviews that said it wouldn't fit. After I got assurance from the Blick Co (very quick response, by the way!), I ordered two, one right and one left.I got my easel and shelfhelps last night and set the whole thing up. The Shelfhelp DOES fit the Blick French Easel, but you have to work with it a bit. Once I figured it out, it was fine. I have to say that the shelf is a little more flimsy than what I'd expected, considering the cost, but I'm going to try it out first before I say it's too flimsy. It will give me a good amount of space around me, so I don't have to keep bending over to pick up stuff off the ground.I'm taking my easel and shelfhelps to Big Bend National Park in March of 2013, so I'll report back on how it went!
Just as described

I ordered both a right and left shelf help for use with a Blick French Easel by Julian. It fits perfectly and both fit inside the drawer easily. The drawer must be open fully to the drawer stop for it to fit, but that is not a problem. The reviewer who indicated that this product does not fit the Blick french easel must not have opened the drawer far enough. I also thought it did not fit until I opened the drawer all the way (which is really only about 2/3 open). Although this is a little overpriced for a couple of bent pieces of sheet metal - it will prove its value over time with the additional space to put brushes, sponges and knives, etc. I recommend it highly.

Very nice... but.....
This product is very helpful when using outdoors. Having extra shelf space is a must. I wish it was more sturdy but I can live with that. Only thing that isn't so great about it is I have to extend the drawer out so far. I'd prefer to have the drawer out only half way. I cut an extra part out of the side to allow the drawer to be in farther. Now I can use it either way. I'd definately recommend this to a friend.

Having an extra shelf for my box easel is a great idea. Easy to put together and it fits right in with my paint and palette. This had to be designed by a painter for painters. I wish it was made a bit more sturdy but it sure does it's job. Easy access to brushes and mediums makes this shelf a must have!

The product itself is excellent. It works great. The price is a bit steep, but otherwise great. I got a right and a left handed one together with my french easel and it's been the best thing I could have gotten - very convenient, fits everything I need on it and stays put throughout the painting process. It just takes a second to figure out exactly where to hook it up to your easel to make it fit (the back hook [and the panel holding the brushes] needs to be in FRONT of the supports for the back of the easel. And the front hook needs to be on the pulled out drawer itself. Take a close-up look at the picture to see exactly what I'm talking about).
