It does not smear or bleed through paper. I like how dark and neat the writing appears and it still looks great when I have to make multiple copies of documents. Only gripe I have is that is cuts into whiteout.

I've had the set of four (assorted) for over a yr. now and they still write very nicely. They don't really bleed through paper.

For a cheap, thin, waterproof black line, it doesn't get much better. Perfect for a carefree sketchbook (who knows about lightfastness, etc). My only complaint is that the felt tips are very grease intolerant. Don't write reminders on your hands, or the pen is done.
For archival quality, step up to a Micron or something from Sakura.
