Recognizing the fact that purchasing a set of pastels is a major investment, Sennelier makes its pastels available in half-sticks, giving you twice as many pastels for the money, and allowing you to sample twice as many rich, wonderful colors.

Sennelier Soft Pastels have been made by hand since 1900, when Edgar Degas asked Sennelier to create pastels in true-to-life dark colors. Still made today with 100% pure pigment, using no binders or fillers, the result is an exceptionally soft, lightfast, watersoluble pastel in colors that are unparalleled for their intensity and depth.

Each half stick pastel measures 1¼" in length and ½" in diameter (32 mm × 13 mm).

Set of 60, Ebony Wood Box — Sixty of Sennelier's best-selling colors are presented in a chic ebony stained wood box that's ideal for gift-giving as well as for transport and storage.

Set of 80, Plein Air Landscape — The 80 colors in this half-stick set were chosen for their ability to mix to create the broadest possible range of landscape colors. This set includes 40 of Sennelier’s original, best-selling colors plus 40 newer colors. It’s perfect for travel and on-location work. Each half stick pastel measures approximately 1¼" long × ½" in diameter (32 mm × 13 mm). This is an economical way to try out a large number of colors.

These pastels are going to Italy with me. My artist friends and I will be painting everyday..my companions will use oils..and I will have the convenience and joy of working with plein aire colors of Senelier pastels...no messing around with brushes, easles, paint mediums, clean-up..Just the Seneliers and a good pastel paper tablet and a blenidng stub and I am all set!!

Sennelier pastels are beautiful, and available in just about any color you could dream of, but should remain unfixed. They tend to bleed with fixative, and become a muddy mess. Frame accordingly under glass for the best results.

Sennelier colors are just gorgeous. I am in love with them because of their fantastic concentration of pigment. However, to be fair, in my recently purchased set of 120 half sticks, about 5% were so hard that they almost seemed they were dried in an oven. I had to use sandpaper to scrape the outer layer off so they were usable. For comparison, I have a set of GA's and the consistency is much better there. However, for their value, they are probably best in their class. If there were 4.5 stars, that would be my rating

Most are wonderful colors, although there were no purples, and that is a color we see in the Southwest. There were three blues almost the exact same color, but the numbers were different.

I would have paid extra for FEDEX, fourteen days shipping is too long even if it is free.

Love these pastels. Some are very soft, others are can be somewhat hard. I like to use them with Faber Castell pastel pencils. Just finished a picture of my daughter with these pastels.
