Dick Blick is proud to present the complete palette of French watercolors from Sennelier of Paris.

Sennelier was founded in 1887 in a shop across from the Louvre, just steps from the School of Beaux Arts. Gustave Sennelier mixed oil colors and watercolors for some of the most notable painters of the time including Cézanne, Picasso, Bonnard, Gauguin, Dali, Modigliani, Soutine, Degas, Monet, and Kandinsky, as well as for nearby students.

Although Sennelier still grinds each pigment and its medium on a surface of granite, to obtain the proper consistency, the entire Sennelier line has been updated to reflect 21st century advances in pigment composition, resulting in the lightfastness desired by today's painters.

These rich and intense colors are extremely fine and luminous, well worth their cost. Colors are available in two tube sizes — 10 ml (0.33 oz) and 21 ml (0.71 oz).

I like to paint fruit and veggies and flowers. This bright red orange is the perfect color for my projects. I have tried other brands but this one is the best.

The paints are fantastic. These are my first artist grade watercolors, as I had only used Cotman. The difference is quite impressive; rich, brilliant colors and the paints are very responsive to the wet brush without too much effort. I am very happy with the paints.

However, as pleased I am with the paints, I must also say the plastic case is terrible. It feels very fragile, and even worse than that, pans do not fit tight, so when I open it, I have a mess with cakes and pans completely disarranged. Right now I put a small tab of double face tape to hold the pans in place; hope that cakes don't get out of the pans now.

Also I don't know which color is causing it, but the palette stained after the first use. It's either one of the blues or the grey (I have the landscape set); I tried to clean it with an old toothbrush and soap but had no success. I guess that with a ceramic palette I'd had no problem, but I use them to sketch outside and want to keep my gear as light as possible.

It is a pity that I can't give a 5 star rating to an excellent product just because of the case, but I have to be honest; if I wouldn't be using them outside I probably woudn't mind.

Sennelier watercolors are consistently the best quality paints. From Blick they are priced comparably or less expensively than W&N or other professional watercolors. I just wish that Blick had open stock of Sennelier watercolor paints!

Sennelier paints give true transparent and luminous washes. They are highly pigmented and re-wet well when dry. The plastic palette boxes for the travel sets are not very sturdy or well made, in my opinion, but I solved that problem by buying an empty metal travel box and putting the Sennelier half pans into it.

Great paints, always a joy to work with.

I find the pigmentation and transparency of Sennelier watercolours very good. Rose madder genuine is better than Windsor and Newtons Rose Madder genuine.
I would prefer Sennelier to Windsor & Newton, only Sennelier is a good bit more expensive.
