Today the descendants of Gustave Sennelier still create their extraordinarily luscious colors from the finest hand-ground pigments combined with pure, first-pressnon-yellowing safflower oils. They produce an outstanding collection of oils distinguished by a "satin" finish and buttery feel. The paints still entrance artists, just as they did when pioneers such as Paul Cézanne and Camille Pissaro first used them.
Many colors are exclusive to Sennelier, including Chinese Orange, Sennelier Transparent Brown, a range of semi-opaque Mars colors, transparent Alizarins, and the unusual Cinnabar and Cobalt Greens. Their Titanium White is considered to be the most opaque Titanium White ever made.
Every one of these colors is remarkably rich, vivid, and responsive, as only a Sennelier oil can be.
Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
I decided to try some 'artist' quality and went with this brand. Like others have commented, certain colors do have a lot of oil separation but I don't find it to be problematic.
What I find odd about this brand is that it contains safflower oil, which supposedly dries slower than linseed. Yet these paints dry remarkably fast. Most of the time this is a benefit but sometimes I wish the paints dried slower.
I have also found that there is wild variation in consistencies between colors (but not between tubes of the same color). Pthalo Green Warm is so thick that I have to use both thumbs to squeeze it out. I thought it was dried out, and Blick quickly sent me a replacement tube, which turned out to be just as stiff.
Overall, in spite of a few quirks I like these paints a lot. Enough that when I need a new tube I stick with this brand. The exception might be Pthalo Green Warm - I will try another brand on that one.

Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
I was shocked to see people complaining,I do know ALL oil paint can have a bit of oil upon opening, all you need is a thin bamboo skewer to mix it up a bit after opening and knead the closed tube, But I seldom have to with Sennelier. Its not linseed oil, its safflower oil in all colors, fully mixable with linseed oil paint, but it yellows far less. And this paint, just like all the best paint is "buttery" and LOADED with pigment. This is excellent quality paint... and well priced for the quality :)

Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
I was not planning to do a review until I read some posted on here. I have been painting with Sennelier Oils for several years and are among my staple paints. I have read bad reviews complaining about so much oil in the tubes. I have never had that problem. Among the different brands I have used I'd say the oil content is not more then others. And I use Norma, W & N, ect. The paint is brilliant and spreads well. Nice and buttery soft buttery, which I prefer. And it has a nice sheen to it. I really like the color selection as well.

Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
Paints are of a very good quality, thick and with a very good flow. Some colors are darker than on the sample list, but it is fine. They dry well and keep their colors without change for many years. I'm using Sennelier oil paints for 30+ years now and I am very happy with them.

Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
I feel I need to update my review of Sennelier extra fine oil paint. I just finished this painting(Pierre Smoking). This is Sennelier 759 and 116, Mars black, Ti.White. The mars black dried blotchy. The figure has a great deal of swede effect....every stroke seems to have a different level of gloss. I paint in a very simple direct way. I don't apply any kind of glazing or layers. For me, this paint is too oil rich and seem to be over sensitive to the absorbency of the ground.. I like my paint like cold butter. This paint is creamy but with no real pigment density

I paint with a lot of black an white....I used some Sennelier Mars black (759) and some Titanium white(116)...They both painted very nice right out of the tube....High quality paint....The Titanium white is bright white Dried overnight....The fastest drying oil paint I have ever used. I did not expect this.. I don't know if all Sennelier colors are like this...

Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
I've embarked on a series of glaze paintings and I'm really glad I put down the extra cash for Sennelier. The tinting strength of these colors is incredible. The entire palette seems to mix and harmonize with all of the other colors in an uncanny and wonderful way. With the exception of Old Holland, I don't know of another paint manufacturer that creates so many glazing colors. I am completely satisfied and will continue to use these colors forever.

Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
I've used them since i972 and wouldn't change brands. The colors are so luminous that I've even had glass cut to fit table tops then used them as palettes; let them dry and placed them upside down on my tables.

Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
I recently bought a tube of Blush tint, and so far more oil comes out of the tube than paint. I thought with the history of this brand I could expect to get more as of now this product has the consistency similar to when you are chewing gum and it turns soupy in your mouth. Not pleased so far. I am now less hesitant to spend the extra money and just go with old holland at least I know I will be getting what I pay for.

Comments about Sennelier Artists' Extra Fine Oil Paint:
If I could afford Old Holland all the time I would buy them, but the Sennelier has become my go to oil color over Winsor and Newton. Creamy, well pigmented, well mixed, and an excellent tonal range. I'm taking permanency ratings on faith. I do not use medium when I paint and I am very happy with the feel of this brand.
