Sennelier Acrylic Gesso is a mixture of acrylic resins and pigments (or colors) that creates an indelible film and enables paint to adhere to canvases and other surfaces.
Semi-Absorbent Gesso for Watercolor
Sennelier Semi-Absorbent Gesso creates a matte, porous surface similar to watercolor paper that allows for improved penetration and diffusion of color for watercolors, egg tempera, gouache, or casein. It also provides a resistance to water that is greater than traditional watercolor paper.
This universal White Gesso provides a matte surface and exceptional tooth for maximum paint adhesion. It's perfect for painting with both acrylics and oils, on surfaces such as canvas, wood, paper, and board. Use it full strength, or dilute it with water up to 20% to achieve the desired consistency. It may also be tinted by pre-mixing it with Sennelier acrylic colors. As a preparation for acrylic paints, one layer of gesso is sufficient. For oil-based paints, two layers are recommended.

High Quality Gesso

Comments about Sennelier Acrylic Colored Gesso:
I got the Sienna colored gesso. It was dense and highly pigmented. I diluted it with a small amount of water to help the gesso spread, and it covered the canvas with a nice bright coat of color. It's on the pricier side, but very high quality, so I think it's worth it.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Sennelier Acrylic Gessoes:
I have been painting for 30 years. Part of my passion for oil painting comes from experimenting - hence I don't want to use expensive panels for this but the less expensive dulls the colors. This gesso is tops - I use it on less expensive panels and paper to do small painting studies or large works to experiment with color and shape.I've used many gessoes and this is the best and easiest to apply with good working surface.

Brings out the Best in the Paint

I use this product on boards that I prepare myself. I thin it down and use multiple coats. It goes on smoothly and dries to an even, chalky texture ("gesso" means chalk) that easily accepts oil paint. Having used another product for years, I was surprised to find that this gesso actually enhances the pigment colors. The smooth, absorbent surface makes it easier to achieve the results I am after, and mistakes are easily corrected. Use of this product has had a greater effect on the outcome of my paintings than I anticipated.

While it is not the cheapest by any means it's worth every penny you pay for it. The tooth--I use it un-sanded--works wonderful under oils. The consistency is thick but is spreads easy; just add a slim film of water to the canvas first and spread away!I used this on top of factory applied primers.
