This type of microcrystaline wax is used in lost wax casting. It is designed for liquid to solid modeling (using clay and wax modeling tools)and for pouring. Molds are easy to take from wax models. Stickiness is essential. Work in a cool room or chill it periodically to keep it from getting too soft (store your work in a refrigerator or in cool water.) This wax is not designed for carving. If you want to carve, buy a jewelers wax.

Great wax for investment casting. Low melting point; it can be melted on a stove, poured into a silicon mold and finally be melted out from the investment in a kitchen oven. Great to work with as it's not brittle and is almost spreadable at hand temperature, which allows easy fixes for small imperfections. Sets pretty hard, too. Probably less suitable for wax carving as it's relatively sticky at room temperature and thus doesn't give great detail.

I am a carver sculptor.
The Dickblicks in pasadena just started supplying wax materials. Thought it would be great to get my wax supplies localy. This brown wax is not labeled in the store, but it is the only brown wax they carry. It is not a good carving wax.
It has a low melting point, and becomes too soft within seconds of skin contact. It is also very tacky and sticks to the tools when cool. It would be a good wax for hand modelers that like that, but why use wax like it is clay when you can use sculpey with less stress.
