Schmincke has been developing and manufacturing its Horadam line of watercolors since 1881, and the company is now owned by the fourth generation of the original family. Today the Horadam line includes 110 colors, 70 of them formulated with a single pigment. Each color has its own individually optimized formula.

Schmincke has a reputation for using only the highest-quality natural gums, water-soluble resins, and pigments. For example, the company uses only Kordofan Gum Arabic from the southern Sahara region, and distinguishes between good and bad harvests or "vintages" of this natural resin as it selects its raw materials.

Horadam Watercolors are available in 15 ml (.51 oz) tubes. Made in Germany.

Horadam colors can be lifted from a dried palette without forming small bubbles. Colors that have dried on the palette can be reused an unlimited number of times.

Horadam makes limited use of ox gall as a dispersant. Colors flow evenly and are fully intermixable. This helps the artist maintain full control of color, even on softer papers.

This product was demonstrated by my national award winning art instructor. Fellow classmates purchased this same product in various sizes and were obviously happy with the results. I purchased the Schmincke 24 large pans traveling set and was so pleased by the prompt delivery by Blick's. The watercolors are beautiful to work with and it makes painting a motivating and fun experience. The quality and clarity of the colors are amazing. I have used the Schmincke watercolor tube paints and I get the same wonderful results with the pans. The portability is especially great for just being able to pack up and go. The best paints with room to mix colors are right there in a convenient travel metal set. Wow!

I have tried almost all other paints worth trying. The set I have is 12 1/2 pans, and will last a while with proper use. These are better than, say, Senneliers, in my opinion, because the color and spread control is MUCH greater with these paints, I found Senneliers had a tendency to "fall" before I was done with proper gradation, etc. Although I have yet to go out into the field with these, the color palette of a standard set also seems more practical than other sets. Having 12 colors helps.
