I purchased the box of 36 half pans. The paints are fantastic, the colors are brilliant and saturated, easy to wet. Unfortunately, the half pans cannot be purchased individually, but must come with the palette box, which was hugely disappointing - the cover is loose-fitting and barely stays shut, the half pans jiggle about and even fall out because the metal clips meant to hold them in do not do the job. Consequently, I purchased an empty palette box from another distributor in which the half pans fit snugly because of a removable bar - and have transferred the half pans to it. So whilst the Schmincke paints themselves are gorgeous, the poorly constructed palette box significantly diminished the value of this purchase.

Make no mistake, these pan watercolors are the BEST on the market. So far I bought all kind of tubes and pans watercolors and Schmincke Horadam wins it all. The colors are rich, creamy and are easy to lift out from of the pan. Quite easy to rewet.

I have tried both pans and tubes and love it. I prefer the tubes and while the tubes seemingly at first glance look small you have to remember that a little of this paint goes a longgg way. There maybe a better quality watercolor paint but I haven't found it. I use these in conjunction with watercolor pencil, ink and acrylics for landscape work.

I have paints from Daniel Smith and some from Winsor Newton. This was the first time I used Schmincke. I bought the 24 full pans. I was very impressed with the vibrancy of the color and how easily I was able to mix them. I had difficulty mixing the Daniel Smith Yellow Ochre, Alizarin Crimson and French Ultramarine to achieve the neutral brownish color I was looking for. But the Schmincke colors worked like a charm. I just wish they sold the pan colors individually. I love the packaging, its so convenient to paint. I am incredibly busy at work, so I was looking for something that would make it quicker for me to paint. The pans do just that.

It appears, at first glance, to be a very simple product that is grossly overpriced. This couldn't be more incorrect in that the colors are incredibly rich and heavily pigmented. I love them!

I have never used professional grade watercolors before, so with the first dip of the brush I could tell the difference. This is a beautiful set in a great box. A little too heavy for everyday, but I will definitely take these paints on vacation.

There is a creamy quality to the paint and really beautiful, saturated color. This paint is used by many of the artists whose work I admire, and I did a lot of research on the product. This was a major investment for me, and I waited over a year to make this purchase--but I am very pleased with this product.

Also, Blick shipped them really fast--even though the purchase qualified for free shipping.

I use the product in paintings, along with inks and color pencils.

The colors are very vivid, and they turn transculent with no problem.

The hardest part of this set is having to unwrap each color (It's protected by foil wrap), but that's nothing hard.

Schminke, what can I say, but they're the best! Although I have purchased the larger Schmincke pan sets, I went ahead and bought the special anniversary set as well. The set is large enough to add additional pan colors, but small enough to fit in a small zippered brush holder zippered pouch. Being able to fit brushes and paints in a small travel holder is great for an artist on the go. Blick's prices and quick delivery are a major plus to an already great product such as Schmincke paints. Definitely a worthwhile treat!

I bought the 18 half pan Anniversary set recently and wanted to add 18 more artist quality pans of another brand that I happened to have since the paint box held 36. But I wanted to get each hue setup in light-to-dark order so I needed to test them. I almost cried when I tested the Schmincke Horadam, it was that amazing. It just seemed to silkily slide onto the brush, and application to paper was satiny smooth too. The colors are luscious and capture the eye!

So, even though it wasn't really in my budget, I splurged and just bought the 48 half pan set. (I deserved a present to myself since I had just passed my 6 month anniversary of quitting smoking. The money saved from quitting more than paid for the paints.) I had always wondered what artist was crazy enough to pay $300 or more on a pan paint set. Umm, hehe, , I guess that would be me. I now say Winsor who?

If you are at all on the fence about this paint, take it from me: I am as much of a cheapskate as I can be about supplies, and Schmincke is nearly the highest (if not THE highest) of pan paints out there ..... AND WORTH EVERY PENNY.
