Best Quality and Value
This is the best quality and best designed watercolor tin on the market and although it is pricy, Blick's price cannot be beat. Less quality tins sell for a similar price. This is my second Schmincke tin and it will not be my last.
Compact, flexible color pan storage

Accepts whole or half-size empty or pre-filled watercolor pans. Customize with any combination of empty pan sizes and fill with your own favorite tube or dry colors.
Not much to get wrong--works as designed
By T. Torch

I bought four empty half-pans along with paints and, at Blick's sale prices plus free shipping, very worthwhile deal. The half-pans are pretty self-explanatory and nothing negative to report with quality. Standard size, snaps perfectly into my metal watercolour palette box. They're perfect if you're looking to create your own, customized watercolour box.

Great for travel
Great for putting together a travel palette from my own tubes, although trays take a bit of tweaking to get to fit securely.
I love them
Because I collect miniatures I like that these pans. They are cute. Fit perfectly in my palette box to allow me a larger choice of watercolor colors.

I believe that it is always worth it to spend more on something that is built well and will last forever. This fits the bill. It is pricy, but when you already have the paints you love and need a way to make them all portable this is wonderful. I bought the Schmincke brand empty half pans as well and put all of the colors I love in them. *Note: The empty pans were filled with tube colors.
Travel watercolor tray ROCKS

The size of the tray is perfect, about the size of my hand and has a ring to hold with thumb. It holds a ton of paint and is perfect to throw in a bag when traveling.
Good price for good pans
By On the go painter
I use these pans for plein air painting. I glue a magnet to the back and use them in various boxes. They will stick to anything metal. For wood or plastic boxes I glue a flattened out piece of a metal pencil box in the bottom. The pans are able to be removed for refilling or cleaning etc... Blick's price was much better than my local store. You can see in these photos: a reconfigured koi box, and the schmincke box that my watercolor tubes came in. I also use them in a wooden pochade for larger works.

Schmincke Empty Tins Awesome
By Avis Artist
from Washington, D.C.
As professional artist it is critical to have my materials organized. I use a multitude of colors when I paint. I purchased two empty Schmincke empty watercolor tins and full size pans to organize my special watercolors (in tubes) a major project. While the tins are expensive, the are far less expensive than purchasing prepackaged watercolors sets. Most importantly, you able to customize your palette with your favor watercolors company(s) that you love AND suit your specific projects that you're working on. Watercolors with honey, such as Sennieler, dried beautifully, as well as watercolors without honey. If you add a drop of honey to your watercolors made WITHOUT honey, they will take longer to dry, but, they end up being smooth as butter. Just don't make the mistake of adding more than a drop to a full pan! The Schmincke tins are somewhat airtight so watercolors will take longer to dry the lid is shut tight. It is really nice to be able to carry my watercolors anywhere and not waste my expensive tubes of watercolor paints.
