hard to use
from Madison, WI
Comments about The French School Savoir Faire French School Opaque Watercolor Gouache:
I am new to gouche, having only ever used acrylics before. I find this brand hard to use, as the consistency is unstable. I agree with other reviewers who said the paint is gloppy and separates from the water on the palette. It is difficult to get it to spread evenly on the paper, too. If I add enough water for smooth coverage, the color is somewhat transparent. If I add less water, to make the color opaque, I have trouble getting the paint to spread. It's not worth the price and may put beginners off; they may attribute their difficulty to lack of ability rather than to sub-par materials.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

These are not gouaches - they are transparent!
By Christopher Busta-Peck
from Cleveland, Ohio
These paints are, quite simply, not gouaches, no matter what the package may say. Of the ten tubes, only two were actually opaque, even when used straight out of the tube. I could see them possibly being useful for other watercolor purposes, but I was looking for something opaque, which these were not.

Gouache is the new watercolor~
from San Jose, Ca.
I tried to paint but the works looked transparent and with some strokes I couldn't decide how to use...at a distance I had found that I had to grimace at the idea that the color was nice...not opaque...and full of fugitive indecencies...it worked as an experiment full of joy, but not as a greater good.
They are ok
They took a while to get used to...and they seprate from the water in the palet which is annoying but tgey look good on paper

I'd like to find a better set
from Milwaukee, WI
I haven't worked with gouache before, so I may be way off, but this paint wasn't as creamy and easy to blend with water as I had experienced with acrylics. They were gloppy and I even had some kind of flecks in my paint that was put on the paper and had to be scraped off.

Pretty Nice for the Price
These French School gouaches give a vivid touch, and for the price they're a good deal. Love the silver and gold because can't resist metallic touches in anything I doHowever, the one negative is that once these paints dry, they are not re-workable as the top of the line gouaches (like Daler-Rowney which cost more than 4 times the price per tube.

I have not used this form of paint before and I am very pleased with it. It is easy to use out of the tube and mixes well with water if so desired. The brush is a nice quality and size.

Great Price for a decent product
By color student
from Scranton, PA
I'm not really experienced in gouache so there is probably a better product out there, however, for my purpose- a basic primary set of gouache to mix for a beginning color class- this was perfect. Exactly what I needed for a terrific price, in fact, I'm placing another order.
Wonderful range of colors
from WA state
I have been dabbling in art journaling and like to do backgrounds on my watercolor paper before adding collage and penwork. These watercolors give me a wide range of color to work with and the price is fantastic!
