Welcome to dickblick
Professionals worldwide love this paper for its superb performance and resistance to distortion.
Mouldmade of 100% cotton, Saunders Waterford is gelatin sized, and neutral pH. Each sheet has two natural deckles and two tear deckles.
Saunders Waterford is endorsed by the prestigious Royal Watercolor Society of England.
Saunders developed High White in response to requests from professional artists searching for a whiter shade of watercolor paper. Because of its whiter base color, pigments appear more vivid and sparkling, giving paintings a fresher, more contemporary look. As a base color, High White allows the lightest highlights to be achieved, either by color-lifting or by using masking fluid. Highlights have a brighter, cleaner glow, enhancing the contrast between the lightest and darkest points on paintings. Used by professionals around the world, Waterford High White is endorsed by the prestigious Royal Watercolour Society of England.

Comments about Saunders Waterford Sheets and Blocks:
I bought 140# CP after trying a sheet from my mentor. This is wonderful paper. It holds a wash and my washes form "beads" with no effort on my part. Colors look vibrant. Just a nice all round paper. Softer than Arches.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I use 90lb hot press Saunders Waterford paper for watercolour animations. Its lightweight-ness makes it easy for using with a light table, and even though it's so lightweight, it's actually quite durable.

Elegant and Economical

I am a painting instructor at a local Art Center, and always searching for excellent quality for fair price for my students. I have switched from Strathmore pads to Saunders Waterford sheets in both 140# and 200# weights. It is wonderful to work with and giving a more professional appearance to our paintings now. I recommend it highly.
Love the Saunders paper
from Paramount, CA
I ordered Saunders cold pressed paper in 140lb and 300lb. Saunders cold pressed paper absorbs watercolor VERY well, leaving the pigment beautiful on the matt paper. It absorbs water well and easy to put and take away the pigment. I love everything about it, loved it for a long time. Saunders and Arches papers are the ones I love the most. Strongly recommended !!!
An excellent alternative to Arches paper

As a fan of the English watercolor tradition, I first started using Saunders Waterford a few years ago. Previously I was using Arches exclusively. I like Arches very much, but am very pleased with SW which I can often find for a cheaper price. I've tried all the regular weights of their paper and have been very satisfied.
Excellent for portraiture
from Athens, GA
This paper behaves beautifully. It is great for watercolor portraits and any work that wants a soft hand. The color glows on this paper and the paint is so easy to manipulate. I also love that it comes in 200lb weight. The cold press behaves a bit like hot press from other brands, but has the texture of cold press. The downside is that it does not take tape or masking fluid well. It can tolderate small bits of masking, but if you rely on either of these a lot to preserve your whites then this paper is not for you.

The watercolor world has many products that artists are urged to experiment with, but my search for for an ideal watercolor paper is finished.Saunders watercolor paper (in my case their 140 and 200lb cold press offerings) cannot be improved, in my opinion. I find their papers to be perfect for my uses...mostly plein air watercolor, but for studio based paintings as well. In every category it always meets or exceeds my hopes: it stays flat, is consistent in quality, takes graphite line and color handsomely, and is as forgiving as a saint if I need to do a bit of lifting or soften a passage. I admit that I have nothing but good things to say about their French rivals as well, but given the choice, I'm going with Saunders and am thrilled that it's available. And at such a reasonable price only adds to my enthusiasm.

My Favorite Paper
from Lynchburg VA
I bought the high white, 140lb rough watercolor paper. The texture is lovely, making it good for rustic scenes and certain expressive work. Being high white, the lighter colors really glow. Some people would not like this paper because colors do NOT lift well, perhaps because of a combination of the rough texture and not very much external sizing. Multiple washes or glazes start making the fibers in the paper fray. I wouldn't say it damages easily, but it looks a wee bit fuzzy, and you can use that you your advantage when wanting a softer texture for animal fur or heavy clothing, just another fun aspect of this paper. This is my favorite paper!
