Fantastic Gold Watercolor
from Austin, TX
Comments about Sargent Art Sargent Watercolor Liquid Metal Pans:
I had been on the hunt to try some metallic watercolors to add something different to my painting style and to experiment with some ideas floating in my head. I was able to test out some paints from a Kuretake watercolor set that included a few metallic colors but I didn't NEED the entire set. I hunted around and found these large metallic pans. For the price, I couldn't be left too disappointed. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised by the color payoff! I drop a little water in the pan and swish it around to activate the paint and I get a fantastic gold. The gold is heavy on the yellow side and that is fine by me. My only disappointment is in the packaging. The pan could be kept in the clear retail packaging but it would really take up a lot of room. And the pan is such a large awkward shape. For now I have it in a random old CD tin I keep my excess half pans in but if I bought more, I'd have to throw them in a plastic zip bag or something. I'll probably pick up the other colors in my next order because it is a fantastic value and is fun to play with.

I haven't gotten around to using these paints yet, but I made swatches. They are beautiful, very metallic and sparkly. The glittery mica seems very finely ground. The paint is very transparent at first so I suggest wetting it first and letting the water activate the paint if you want it to be a little more opaque. I noticed that the Copper seems to be more opaque than the other colors. They are so much more metallic and shiny than the Derwent Metallic Watercolor Pencils, which are shiny and metallic when used dry, but lose the sparkle and shine when they are wet.If you want a beautiful shiny sparkly product the Sargent Liquid Metals are the way to go. I'm extremely happy with these. I wish they came in more colors.

I bought three of these pans and have tried only one so far. I ended up trying the copper first because I wasn't too sure how the color would come out. Surprisingly it turned out very metallic looking so now I am curious as to how the rest of them will look.
