I thought the difficulty with this stemmed from my own inexperience. But as it turns out, teachers apparently also had a problem with this too. It's false advertising on the bucket to say it doesn't shrink after drying. It does and it cracks too. People also say thick things take days to weeks to dry and even then may not. What I do is set it out in one position for 24 hours then the next day flip it over exposing the other side to air and it dries in 2 days time. I thought it was a great bargain at first but now idk if I'm going to buy this again or not.

This product is not really hard to use, in order for this clay to do not dry out is to use/mix with a little bit o lotion, do not use water!!!, the clay can be mix with paint before use, but only use acrylic paint, do not use oil. let is sit one day for better dry, if you have any left over, you can put in a plastic zip bag, so you can use it again, if you paint it and want to reuse, it will dry after 2 weeks, so use it before 2 weeks for a better result.

I bought a 2lbs container of this product last year and have done over 100 phone charms and earrings with it. Only had about 2 pieces get cracks but that was because I didn't mold it enough or add enough water when blending it. I used Tempera paints to paint it and then added sculpey satin glaze for a shinny effect. I would recommend it to anyone but would Also recommend reading instructions and tutorials on using this product. Don't add too much water and don't let it dry up if you aren't done. When finished it takes a day to fully dry depending on the size. I turn mine over every few hours to allow even drying or hang them. The only thing I would do different with this is buy a paint sealer to apply before adding glaze some people don't take care of them and end up peeling some of the color off. My own collections are in perfect condition and over a year old. For small projects its perfect.

I wish I had read these reviews before I used this stuff. I am doing a wood carving of a life size heron. I made the legs from 1/2" steel rod and the toes from 1/4" rod. I started out using bondo to coat the legs before rasping and sanding to finish. Cannot apply and form bondo with hands so I found this product at local art store(hobby lobby). The label on bucket reads will not shrink or crack. I did not apply more than 1/4" thick but 2 weeks later and its still cracking. I filled the cracks with more sculpit and it also has cracked. Now I'm filling the cracks with wood filler and if this does not work I will have to grind all of this stuff off and start all over. Bondo is hard to work with but can be filed and sanded after a few hours. I have been over 2 weeks working with this stuff. They should offer a full refund for false advertising. I was forced to give it one star.

I LIKE IT VERY MUCH BECAUSE I USED FOR ALLOT OF CREATIVE THINGS LIKE JEWELRY MAKING EARRINGS AND NECKLASE
THE ONLY PROBLEM THAT HAS IS THAT WHEN SHE GOTS WET THEN THE WORK IS RUIN IF YOU HAVE ANY WAY THAT I MIXED WITH ANOTHER PRODUCT SO IT DONT HAPPENS THIS I WILL APPRECIATE YOU TO TELL ME

I haven't found that many flaws about this product. It's like every other clay, you have to keep adding water or else it hardens because you're hand takes away the moisture. I found a couple cracks after it dried but it was at places where I most likely left in a few air bubbles. I managed to make a bobble head from this product! My only negative review about this is that on the packaging it says "no bake" so I figured it means it'll stay forever hard after it dries. Once I put a dab of water on it, the surface gets soo slimy, I'm afraid to paint it. So I think I'm going to have to bake it. That isn't much of a concern, I'm just really upset the packaging lies to you.

I would never recommend this product to anyone. I first bought Sculpt-It clay because of the convenient class pack and the good price, but was sorely disappointed in the end.

The first problem I faced was how quickly it dried and crumbled in the hands of my inexperienced students. A few short minutes of kneading and rolling and all the moisture of the clay is gone. This lead to appendages failing to stick to the central figure and falling off to be later glued back on with a hot glue gun. Some students' clay just began crumbling, becoming nothing more than a pile of useless pebbles.

The next problem I faced was the slow drying time. Even after a whole week, many pieces were not completely dry!

Lastly, was the problem with paint. The clay did not take paint well at all. I tried both watercolor and tempera, both of which were easily wiped or accidentally rubbed off. Even if a piece was successfully painted, I would come back to find cracks had formed on almost every piece.

This stuff cracked as it dried. and continued WEEKS after it was hardened. At 1st I thought it was just me but the week after we all tried it at art group everyone said their pieces kept cracking randomly all over.
The ONLY reason I said a solid value is the price is fine for the amount you get. I would only ever use this stuff to be the "Guts" to a sculpture. I do decorative collectibles for holidays. And if I do not use armature I often will use solid clay. This stuff is fine for the insides as it has a decent weight to it. Funny enough we were all doing skeletons for Halloween when we tried this stuff so lucky enough all the cracks did not ruin our pieces. I would never buy this stuff but if I had it on hand I would not throw it out b/c it is rock hard (much harder than creative paperclay). So again insides/guts of a piece for me only. I think they should discontinue this product until they can remedy the issues.

This product didn't harden during the three days we let it sit out at our camp. We had to put it in the oven to harden it. Don't plan on using this product in summer humidity!
