Travelling Water Colour Journalist will want this
from Nipawin, Saskatchwan, Canada
I travel a lot and always take my Koi watercolor set. When I teach classes I recommend this set to my students. It may not be professional quality paint but if you want to make a quick sketch while travelling and want something small, compact and that doesn't cost a fortune then buy this set.
I'm probably going to buy this again

Great paints for the price. Amazing for beginners. I'm a beginner painter & couldn't be happier with the results of these paints. Way to lift, blends nicely.

Great starter set!
from Baltimore, MD
I have not used watercolor for ages. This set has helped me quickly pick up the art form in an enjoyable way. I'm certain a professional would be able to do some incredible things with what it has, but these travel sets are certainly geared towards the amateur - and that's why I like them!I have the deluxe version since I eventually plan on taking it into the field for some nature art. For now, it is really nice to be able to practice while sitting on the couch. No need for a studio when your studio can go anywhere. Do yourself a favor and pick up a nice block of watercolor paper. A 4x6" block fits in the tray of the deluxe kit. Also, the waterbrush is pretty cool.
everywhere I go

Smaller than a deck of cards, this set fits every pouch and pocket I own. I forget that I have it until I need it, and then I am always kind of amazed at the bright, clear colors and the way the kit works in its low key, no hassle way.
I personally love using my Sakura Koi 24 Sketch Box Set. The colors are wonderfully vibrant and saturated. They wet easily and require less scrubbing than other paints. The only downside would be that they are very opaque. These colors operate a bit more like rewet gouache than they do watercolors as they lack in the transparency department. This makes them great for creating dark scenes like a galaxy backdrop, or for free handing, but difficult to use when coloring over linework that is supposed to be visible. Thus why I also have a set of Winsor and Newton Cotman Watercolors. Also, these colors peel very badly. I've purchased two sets (because I used up my first set and loved it so much I bought a second), and they both had the colors peel off in sheets when wet. If you can resist the urge to peel, then these pans should last a long time. Otherwise, they are beautiful colors and should suit most.
Vibrant, complete for a beginner like me

The quality and basic combination of colors are great. I am just beginning to paint and I did not want to spend too much, only Blick had this product at the good price.
