Imagine the freedom to paint just about anywhere! Cobra Water Mixable Oils are artist-quality oil paints that offer the freedom to paint indoors or outdoors, in studios, at academies, or in your living room. Painting with Cobra is the same as painting with traditional oil paints — however, you can mix the paints with water and no solvents are required.
Cobra paints can be applied using traditional oil painting techniques with no visible changes during the drying process — colors, brushstrokes, and applied textures remain unchanged after the paint has dried. They work well with brushes, painting knives, rollers, sponges, and more.
Cobra's versatility of application allows them to be used for creating opaque and transparent layers, watercolor wash techniques, alla prima, and glazing techniques. The colors offer a uniform degree of sheen and uniform drying time across the range.
The range consists of 70 transparent, semi-transparent, semi-opaque, and opaque colors that are highly lightfast, including 35 made from a single pigment. Ten colors are based on highly exclusive pigments, such as Cadmiums, Cobalts, and Chromium Oxides, as well as an exceptionally transparent Oxide Red and Oxide Yellow. Because Cobra oil colors offer the highest degree of lightfastness, the original colors will remain unchanged for at least 100 years under museum conditions.
During the grinding process, the high-quality Cobra pigments and oil are pulverized in a triple-roll mill until artist-quality fineness has been achieved.
Because Cobra Oils mix with water and don't require the use of toxic solvents, using them protects your health and the environment. Equipment and hands clean up easily with soap and water.
Cobra Water Mixable Oils offer exceptional pigmentation, a low evaporation rate, true water solubility, excellent brush stroke retention, and a sustainable paint layer.

Nice Flow not draggy
Comments about Royal Talens Cobra Water Mixable Oil Colors:
I've been painting with water mixable oils for several years now and have tried them all.I've found the Royal Talens Cobra to flow the best. I rarely have to use a medium or water. I really do not like using mediums because they leave a shine and an uneven finish on my paintings....also, I paint in closed quarters and have pets and mediums really leave an odor behind which worries me.The Daniel Smith are nice too. But if you like thick paint and using mediums I would use Holbein which I found to be hard to paint with.Just my opinion.Hope this helps.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Creamy and spreadable right out of the tube. Works well with Gamblin's Solvent-Free Gel & Fluid, and cleans up with soap and water. I especially love the trans oxide red & yellow.
My go to product!

First learned about Royal Talens Cobra Water Mixable Oils from a fantastic Australian artist, whose online workshops I frequently take. Since then, I have tried various other brands but always come back to Cobra! Creamy, blendable, great colors, and love how simple cleanup is!

Royal Talens Cobra Water Mixable Oils

Allergies to solvents and mediums kept me from using oils for a long time - until I found Water Soluble (W/S) oil paints. However all W/S oils are not created equal. Cobra is an artist quality paint (meaning it has a high pigment load) with water soluble properties for easy cleanup. They are compatible with Holbein Duo water W/S oils as the emulsifiers work similarly, and both paints are buttery and feel like traditional oils. The only difference in these paints is the emulsifier that allows for water to mix with the oil. Otherwise, the pigments and oils used to make the paint are same or similar to traditional oils. Cobra is from the same company that makes Rembrandt Paints. The nice thing about Cobra and Duo paints is that you can actually use water sparingly to replace solvent when making a beginning wash. (Remember fat over lean so only the beginning layers can be thinned with water or solvent). You can also mix them with acrylics and gouache which are water based paints. I have found that many other W/S brands are only water cleanup. If they are mixed with water, the paints get gummy and sticky. The Cobra is creamy and rich and comes in a wonderful variety of colors including pure cadmiums, cobalts and chromiums. Some colors can be a bit oily but it just makes the paint more creamy. It doesn't seem to effect the color itself. My favorite and most used color is Transparent Oxide Red which is hard to find in other brands. Even though artists quality paints are a little more expensive than student grade, they are worth every penny. You use less, get better, cleaner mixes and a little goes a long way because it covers better. Ultimately it may be a slightly larger beginning investment which ends up cheaper and better in the long run. Cobra has some colors not found in the Duo line which I find essential to my palette. I love both brands which round out my palette nicely with great results.

Excellent product for those that prefer water mixable oils to regular oils. Love these!

I haven't actually painted anything more than a test or two. I'm converting to water miscible oils. I'm still trying to decide which brand works best for me. I recently read an article on line, sorry I don't recall her name, but she found this product to be highly pigmented and texture most like her original oils. Blick had them on sale so I've added a few to my collection. I have a large oil commission coming up so I'll know more then.

I switched to the Cobra paints about a year ago. I wanted to get away from using solvent, just a healthier choice. They work very much like traditional oils and the drying time is about the same too. I'm happy with them and plan to continue using them. I order them from Dick Blick for a few reasons, I haven't found a local arts store that carries them and I like ordering from Blick as its always a pleasant experience.

When I am getting ready to do a project the local art supplies always fall short on what I need. Blick has what I need and I can get it quickly. Everything arrives timely and shipped without delay or damage.

Creamy and substantial paint that covers and performs as oil paint but with the bonus of being able to use water as a thinner and for clean up.
