Porcelain palettes are a great alternative for mixing paint.
They're weighty so they won't move around while in use, and will last for years due to their sturdy construction. Porcelain palettes are also easy to clean and store.
Choose from a variety of shapes and sizes.
Note — The following Round Palettes sizes come with a loose fitting plastic cover: 5 Wells, 7 Wells, 11 Wells, and 12 Wells.

Check size carefully before purchase
Comments about Round Porcelain Palettes:
These palettes are the best for color mixing. However, there are a variety of sizes so check the size carefully. The one I ordered was a lot smaller than expected. I will use it for outdoor painting but I will order a larger one for my studio.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I could use several of these

I'll be using this porcelain palette ( 10 wells plus center 2 yin/yang wells) for watercolor, and it will be especially useful in working with a "limited palette" painting: the two primary colors placed in the center yin/yang circle, and a series of variations of mixes from those two colors placed around the perimeter. It will be very organized and space-saving. The wells are deep, and because it's porcelain instead of plastic, it will be easy to clean and stay put on my work table. Nice!
great for use with my silk painting
from slc utah
this porcelain palette is perfect for using with dyes because the wells are so deep and you usually need to mix larger portions of color than other mediums at a time. Also, the porcelain resists stains so the mixed colors stay true to what they will look like on the silk.
perfect for my needs

This is 'best' because it's just what I need, AND I got it at a great price. Porcelin can really spoil a girl after using plastic palettes.I got a small and medium round porcelin palette.Quality very nice for the price. The small one has a small glaze imperfection in one of the wells, though not enough to be a problem. All other porcelin palettes I received had smooth even glaze. No burs top or bottom.I'm going to use this in the center of a homemade lazysusan palette, or any other type of color blending too. I use primarily watercolors. The weight, white surface that doesn't stain or puddle up like plastic is a real treat. Ive been using plastic for years.Blicks has a nice selection of smallish porcelin palettes at affordable prices.
I got the 7 well flower one. and it's very very nice. I love the smaller size of it too, because it's portable and doesn't take up a big space on my desk. I don't like metal or plastic mixing palette for watercolor at all. Ceramic is always the best choice.

"3 well palette" great, but not a palette.
from The Frozen North
This three-well porcelain item is actually a water bowl designed for painters who do sumi-e combined with watercolor. You get a large supply of clean water in the larger section, to use for diluting or grinding your ink, and the two other sections are meant for cleaning off your ink brush and your paint brush, respectively. Very convenient, cleans up with no trouble, the weight keeps it stable when you are swishing brushes around in it. I guess there's no reason why someone who needs to mix paint in large quantities couldn't use it as a palette, but really, it's a bowl.

When I oil paint, I use a glass pallet.Same for watercolor because ALL the plastic stains to some degree.Porcelain is glass and does not stain. If you have a sloppy well used pallet and like it, do not waste your money. I mix color precisely and love the glass

Good palette with substantial weight as added paper weight, nice looking too. Great for multi tone mixing for sumie e.

This is a wonderful heavyweight porcelain palette that helps me to mix larger pure puddles of watercolor when I don't want them to run together. The first one broke in shipping but Blick quickly replaced it so I hardly had to wait to try it out. I will probably order more of the individual porcelain cups to use for color pouring as well, since they stain less than plastic.
