Rotring Art Pen (Calligraphy nib)
from Atchison, Kansas
Comments about Rotring Art Pens:
I have used the Rotring Art Pens for many years (since their appearance) with calligraphy nibs (1.1, 1.5, 2.3) and have found them extremely reliable, comfortable, light and easily maintained. Being left-handed, I grind the nibs to an oblique angle, and they have borne that attack quite well. The pens, originally designed by Hermann Zapf, I believe, have a genetic history that shows in every version. I do recommend them highly.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I love this pen.

I do a lot of pen and ink drawings. I especially enjoy drawing with a fountain pen. This pen fills the bill.

I own both the extra fine and the medium nibs. Both pens are used with waterproof ink (Noodles) to sketch. They work perfectly.

The pen is nice quality. It is a nice substitute for a dip art pen. Kind of like the same quality with out the mess. My only complaint is I wish the ink cartridges were bigger. But well worth the price.

No luck with these pens for drawing
I keep purchasing these Rotring pens, hoping I'll finally get one that works for simple pen and ink drawing. I now have 3, the ExtraFine, Bold, and 2.3 Calligraphy. I've tried the Rotring ink cartridges in all 3, as well as a Rotring piston cartridge loaded with fine fountain pen inks such as Winsor & Newton. None of the combinations is usable for drawing or sketching because it's so difficult to get the ink to flow at the beginning of each session, resulting in inkless steel scratches in the paper. When it does flow, its erratic and undependable, yielding broken lines or lines with varying widths. I've given up on them and returned to simple dip pens and nibs, which are reliable and produce far better results.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

I've been using these pen refills for over 20 years and just love them. Makes pen and ink drawing on location easy.

Well made pens. Once inked, the letters flowed nicely out of the nib.
Not quite what I wanted, but a great pen nonetheless

I was expecting a finer line, but for the price, it is an excellent fountain pen. The line is clean, and the pen draws smoothly. It does have a tendency to stop if it's left uncapped for anything more than about ten seconds, so it can take a few uses before remembering to cap it consistently. Overall, a great value, especially considering Blick's discounts.

I purchased these items as they were the result of a search for fountain pens, however, when rcvd. they said calligraphy pens. They were nice but had to return to purchase the required item.

This pen has replaced a fabulous fountain ink pen I used to have but got destroyed in a move many years ago. I stopped drawing with pens. I've been doing a lot of carbon pencil drawing and decided to try a cartridge pen (the really good fountain pens are out of my price range.) This one does not disappoint. I use it more and more.
