I simply adore this pen! I bought it with the Extra fine nib and used it almost daily for sketching. It has really good flow and feels good in my fingers. Drawing with it feels very smooth, and it doesn't catch on the paper.

The default ink cartridges it comes with are not waterproof, so you may want to purchase an adapter and some waterproof ink if you want to use it with watercolor washes!

The one downside is that the pen is tapered in the back. This prevents you from being able to put the cap on it while it is in use.

I use these pens as my go-to ink pens. Montblancs dry up or leak, Parkers dry up and don't leak; ballpoints smudge. This pen writes first time every time, regardless of how long since last use. The ink is dense, black and permanent. Doesn't leak during flights either.

This pen is incredible....I use it every day and actually have several of them. I love the extra fine Art Pen that is sold here at Blick. It is wonderful for sketching and also just plain writing. The ink flows out so smoothly and never skips, the line it makes is small and even. It is also available in the calligraphic type pens, which are great too but less useful for all-around work as the extra fine pen is.

When I reach for my sketchbook I always grab my Rotring pen too...and carefully keep them safely hidden from everyone else in the house!

The price for the pen is so reasonable here at Dick Blick, which is a real plus!

The pen body itself is very comfortable in the hand, but using the converter in the body makes this pen unusable. Even after fitting replacement converters they do not seat on the nib body and do not maintain contact with the feed, breaking the flow of ink to the tip and requiring constant dismantling to restore the ink flow. I would not recommend this pen!

I'm a mid-level calligrapher (beyond a beginner, but certainly not accomplished or expert). I ordered two Rotring Art Pens. One has too broad of a nib for what I'm working on (wedding invitations), but it's still a nice pen. The ink flows smoothly through the pen and the pen feels nice in your hand. It is not hard to "prime" the pen each time and the pen never spatters or drips. I have used both ink cartridges and the converter and see no difference in the smooth flow of ink. I'm very pleased with my purchase and would buy another if they had a different size nib available!

Although I usually use and prefer nib pens, the Art Pen is a nice, convenient alternative. Of the calligraphy cartridge style pens I have tried, the Art Pen is the best.

Honestly, I didn't know what to expect with this, being a nib pen...i usually use brush and felt nib pens. I have heard of Rotring and when i saw an almost %50 off clearance of Rotring pens, i thought i'd give it a whirl. I made a wonderful/tragic discovery...this ink is not waterproof...i accidentally got a drop of liquid on a drawing that i did with my Rotring pen....smudge city!!!
BUT, i discovered that i can do wonderful ink washes, this ink is great for washing with a brush...so i plan on using this pen even more than i was expecting...

I use the 2.1, 1.1, and M. They are wonderful. I've never had any reason for complaint from the pen, itself. Rotring inks area amazingly luxurious. The ONLY problem I've ever had was that somebody decided that Rotring didn't need to produce their RED ink, anymore. I have no idea why they'd decide such a thing, and I've been forced to mix inks of another brand to mimic. Though the colour is similar, the pure richness is not there. Give Us Back Our Rotring Art Pen Red Ink!

I have a Rotring ArtPen calligraphy set that I bought in the early 90's, as well as a few 1.1 mm ArtPens, and an EF ArtPen. These are fantastic pens. When Rotring still made its ArtistColor acrylic inks, I used to use them exclusively in these pens (sadly, ArtistColor is no longer made). Now I use Magic Color acrylic ink (now available at Dick Blick!) These Rotring pens may be the only fountain pens with which you can safely use acrylic inks (I have been doing so for nearly 20 years without ruining a single pen). These brands of acrylic inks are very permanent, lightfast and waterproof, so if you want your work to endure, this is a great way to go. The nib feed is designed to be taken apart for easy cleaning (I put a paper towel around the nib and gently pull to remove it. You will find that the metal nib slips off the plastic feed, for cleaning.) However, that said, be sure to flush the pen regularly and never let an acrylic ink dry in the pen. Keep the pen happy and flowing by using it daily. If you neglect the pen and the ink dries in the plastic feed, buy an extra-firm toothbrush and use a little diluted ammonia to gently clean the plastic nib feed. Magic Color also makes a cleaning fluid. If you use acrylic ink in these pens, it may be best to buy "designated" converters for each color, since some colors of acrylic ink can stain the plastic. These are my favorite fountain pens, hands down. They're slim, lightweight, and feel good in the hand.

I use the Rotring calligraphy pen for all of my note taking and personal correspondence. The ink is rich and dark, and the pen nib is the most responsive I've ever found. Best of all is the luxurious tactile sensation of spreading ink over paper with this pen - pure delight.
