Good To Find A Place For Art Material
from Sinks Grove WV
Comments about Ronan Aquacote Bulletin Enamels:
I live in rural West Virginia and shopping for such things as art material is often a day of driving and frustrated searching. I was glad to Discover an online source and the Ronan Sign Paints were the best. Thanks, Blick.

One Stroke Coverage for Lots More Than Signage
By Ann, horsewoman and artist
from Farmville, Va.
As a retired sign painter, I find this product useful for so many other applications: crafts such as model horse painting, wall painting interior or exterior, outdoor artwork, pasture gates, bridles and halters or anything that you don't want to have to put two coats on. It can be broad stroked or reduced to the tiniest details and dries very quickly. It is extremely durable in any usage. And with Dick Blick quick shipping, it is a perfect product for me. Ann :-)

This is mainly in response to the person who didn't like the Imitation Gold, and to anyone else who read his review.Imitation Gold is a color that has been used by sign painters for many years. It is sort of the color of spicy mustard. It is not intended to look like metallic gold or gold leaf. Back in the heyday of gold leaf window signs, it was a cheaper substitute that looked more like gold from a distance than metallic gold paint does. You don't see the metallic in meyallic paint for more than a few feet away. If you want a more shiny gold paint, use Ronan's metallic line. The Aquacote is an excellent product. I'm a sign painter with 30 + years of experience. There is a learning curve to switching to water borne paints.
Great alternative to oil based!
By No More MIneral Spirits
I was looking for something water based to use for hand lettering instead of one shot or other oil based paints. Aqua Cote works great and has excellent coverage, the best of any other water based paint I tried. It flows differently than one shot but once I got used to it became second nature. Clean up is sooooo much better than oil based paints. Per the suggestion on this site I use glycerin to thin the paint when needed, however it flows well right out of the can.
I bought this paint to do the base-coat of some signs that will be mounted outdoors. The color is really rich, and looks great. It is really sticky going on. Package said not to thin unless necessary. I found it necessary to thin, immediately after opening. It dries really fast, and was extremely difficult to brush on a smooth layer. Maybe it is better with a roller? Am still new with enamels, so am willing to keep using this brand, and see if I can find a better technique. Haven't used them for lettering, yet, but suppose to work just fine.
