Richeson Grey Matters Palette Paper
By Bliss T.

Comments about Richeson Grey Matters Paper Palette:
I am an oil and acrylic artist. Having a toned palette (middle tone grey or brown) allows me to see the colors better and achieve better mixes. The fact that these are disposable easy cleanup at a reasonable price makes this product a thumbs up for me. I selected the 12 x 16 size which fits perfectly in my Masterson Sta Wet Palette Box (with oils I remove the sponge that comes with the Masterson). I just drop the whole pad in it. The paper stays stable and allows me to always have a clean palette. This system keeps my paints longer and gives me plenty of mixing room. A wood palette can warp or split if putting the oil palette in the freezer. Paints mix well with the wax coating. For small jobs or plein air there are smaller sizes of this paper which make it quite portable.

Things that are great about using paper palate

enjoying mixing oil colors on the warm gray

Since I paint out in the breeze and wind, the paper sheet needs to be taped to the enamel lasagne pan. This summer I am working smaller,so I need to change my process from working from large piles of paint to a palette with just sufficient paint for each session. It is great to not have to clean the pallette. Just use the paint and fold in half and reuse.Widler Wenzel

Can wipe off paint in an area to mix other paints!

I saw other artists using this grey paper pallette. I did some research on it and decided to order it. Its a simple yet effective idea as to why to use this. Gray is a neautral color so it therefor helps you judge you values and colors more accurately while mixing on them. On the back of the front cover sheet is a value finder and color wheel and some basic color theory which alone is a value in itself. Just cut it off and keep it around when you need. When you are done or the grey paper has paint all over just throw it away and tear out a new one. No more spending time on cleaning a pallette.

These disposable palettes are fantastic. I love the gray color because it helps me to see how my colors will really look. I tried going back to a wood palette and gave up after a few tries. I think this is one of the greatest products an artist can find. I buy the smaller ones to fit in my 9x12 palette box. I have used other brands of paper palettes but most were too slick and my paint slid around. These have just the right amount of slickness.
Don't like for acrylic
I like having the grey palette to judge values. This paper palette probably works fine for oils. I paint mostly with acrylics which dry on this palette. It's basically a very thin plastic. I have to continually spray my paints to keep them moist. I usually use the Masterson Sta-Wet palette papers with 4 layers of wet paper towels under them. The only time I spray them is when I'm taking a break and want to leave them out until I return. If I had started out with a palette that had to be sprayed all the time I might not think much about it but going from not spraying to spraying is a real hastle. It breaks my flow.

Exactly what I need

I love these palette papers because I use the 9x12" size and just place one in the bottom of my Coulter easel. No cutting or sizing needed. Oh, and little to no clean up necessary.
Always great service

It's convenient to take places or smaller works.
Grey for judging values is 'priceless'
By paint like you mean it!
I order and use many of these for myself and my students. Once you use 'grey' you don't want to go back to any other disposable palette - you can judge and adjust your paint mixes on the 'mid-value'. Plus the variety of sizes works for many applications.
