Qulity greatly diminished

Comments about Richeson Bamboo Brush Roll-up:
I have been purchasing theses brush holders for several years. Unfortunately the manufacturer has made changes which make this product inadequate and no longer functional. Inside the bamboo structure is a black fabric that is divided into pockets to hold several brushes. The fabric is no longer sewn on all sides so that it is secured to the bamboo. This makes it difficult to get the brushes into the pockets and also difficult to roll the bamboo so that it can be securely closed. The brushes fall out easily.I will no longer purchase this item for my students. I would not recommend this item for purchase.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This was flimsy. The cloth was not attached at the bottom and my brushes fall out. I am going to have to glue the bottom to keep my brushes from falling out.

Baboo Brush Roll up

The only complaint I have is that the bottom cloth which hold the brushes does not have periodic dividers. It is one long piece. Thus, the brushes can move around, instead of placing them in a section where they cannot move.

bring back the cotton interior pockets!
from Grove City, Ohio
This product was perfect and then it was modified with inferior materials. The original construction had interior cotton pockets that were deep enough to really hold on to the brushes. Now there are slippery short pockets. The cord which wraps the bamboo was originally strong cotton cord which had a texture which would help the bamboo stay wrapped. Now the cord is slippery synthetic which is too short, to boot.I continue to buy them because they are still very useful but the changes make them disappointing.

when the brush holder is rolled up, the tie string is pretty puny, it is not heavy enough or long enough.

Quality has declined
from new york
This used to be a great product, but Richeson changed the design and ruined a good thing. Brush pockets are no longer attached to the bamboo at the top and bottom, only the sides and it no longer supporrs the brushes - they are left flapping in the wind when you unroll the mat. Shame because the previous design was great and I would definitely have bought more for my painting students. Now I'm back searching for something useful.

great for the price!
These brush holders do indeed Cary long handle brushes and the can be cut down with scissors to be more accommodating to short brushes. I did replace the strings with 550 cord and shoe strings to make them easier to open and secure. They can be loose as others have mentioned, but a rubber band fixes this. I store Dynasty Black Golds, Silver Black Velvets, and a set of Blick kolinsky brushes without fear of them being damaged. The brushes dry out faster in bamboo than in a canvas roll. Well worth the money to ensure my brushes make it back and forth to class.
