Welcome to dickblick
The history of Royal Talens goes back to 1899. In that year, Marten Talens founded the "Dutch Factory for Paints, Lacquers, and Inks" based in Apeldoorn, Netherlands. Rembrandt Soft Pastels have since become one of the most popular artist pastels in the world.
We offer you the full range of Rembrandt colors in open stock. Rembrandt pastels are made from the purest pigments and mixed with the finest quality kaolin clay binder. No pigments containing heavy metals, such as cadmium, lead, and cobalt, are used in production which ensures that the pastels have no hard bits or sharp edges.
These pastels are harder in consistency than many soft pastels, allowing for more control and definition in your painting. Full sticks measure 2-3/4" long × 7/16" diameter (70 mm × 11 mm). They are paper wrapped, and are sold individually. Half sticks are available only in sets.
Gift Idea — Rembrandt Soft Pastels are available in a variety of attractively packaged sets, from economical half stick sets to the exquisitely packaged wooden box sets. See Rembrandt Soft Pastel Sets for pictures and more detailed specifications of these sets.
Color Chart Note — Use this color chart as an approximation of the real color. If exact color matching is necessary, use actual samples of the materials.
Minimum Order — Please order individual pastels (open stock) in a minimum of 6, so that we can efficiently package and ship your order. Your selection may be assorted to meet this requirement.

Rembrandt Soft Pastels
By Mushroom Momma
from Seneca, Il
Comments about Rembrandt Soft Pastels:
I have been painting my canine portraits and flower paintings in soft pastels for over 50 years now. I switched to Rembrandt pastels a few years ago, and haven't looked back. Best colors and blending properties of all brands I have tried. A bit of a challenge at first getting the occasional bright, hard edge, but that was soon solved with a freshly broken bit of the color needed. I am staying with this brand.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Rembrandt Soft Pastels Set

Comments about Rembrandt Soft Pastel Sets:
After forty years of carrying around a small set of Rembrandt soft pastel set and finally them I decided to buy a bigger set. I purchased the Luxury Box Set and love the 30 half sticks so I don't have to break sticks. Haven't used the 15 full sticks as yet. These pastels layer nicely and work well with charcoal. Beautiful colors!
Wow, these are THE best!
Used for weathering on RR hobby kits...excellent quality and control from the outset...no need to try any other brand...totally satisfied with this product.

Excellent color range, solid value. Somewhere between soft and hard, reliable consistency.
These pastels are so rich in color and extremely soft. I sometimes use the pan pastel tools, rather than handle them like sticks. But they are small and somewhat pricey.
Rembrandt Soft Pastel Set

I've worked with pastels for less than a year, but this set was recommended by my instructor and other students and I really like them. They are so much better than either of the other sets I had been using.

A good collection of hues
from Houston, TX
I'm new to pastels and came to the realization that having the right hues to choose from is much more important than in another mediums, like acrylics, where mixing and blending are much easier to accomplish. I like the Rembrandt set; because, it had a wide array of hues and with the Blick discounts a reasonable price. The only thing that I'm not crazy about is the cylindrical sticks. Since I'm new to the game, I suspect that it only takes a little time to get used to the form.
Fabulous pastels that I would buy again!
