Comments about Reeves Student Watercolor Sets:
Buy these all the time for my students. The price and the quality are great for beginners. Pigments are not quite strong enough for advanced students
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Great quality, great price

I love these paints so much. Sure there are other paints out there that are better, but you absolutely get the most bang for your buck with these!

If you're buying Reeves, it's probably not for the quality but the exceptional prices. The quality is functional but the price is unbeatable.#sweepstakes
Good Value; Good for Students
from Austin, TX
These watercolors are a solid choice for a student grade material at a competitive price. I bought them for a four-week summer art camp serving about 40 students ages 3-11. The pros: bright colors, easy to squeeze out and measure, easy clean up. The cons: don't expect these to have concentrated pigments. They are definitely "student grade" - in between the consistency of tempera and guache. In my case, this worked perfectly as we mostly used watercolor for background washes. The tubes were easier to clean up and manage than bottles of tempera, so I would encourage classroom teachers to consider as a more portable, tidier option.

Great introductory set
I purchased a small quantity of these watercolor sets for an intro workshop I taught and for that purpose, these are perfect. Of course there are pricier sets but not all students will go on to pro watercolor tube and pan collections so these fill the bill for showing the basics of washes and other techniques. The basic colors are here, they flow well, and have good depth without being grainy or difficult. The price was right to include this set with the cost of the class, students loved having their own set to take home, and this was an easy and obvious fit.If you are looking for decent intro paint sets for classwork, this is your product.
Reeves Student Watercolor Set

Reeves Student quality watercolors have really gone downhill! They are at best a child's first watercolor set and definitely not student quality paints. Unless you plan to use them straight from the tube don't waste your time. If you attempt to mix them to a cream thickness you will end up with washed out color. The pigment quality is extremely poor, so don't plan on showing students how to create a color wheel...you will not achieve correct colors. Granulation, lightfast, staining...you will not find these qualities in any of the paints. Extremely disappointed and will not recommend these paints to anyone!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Vibrant color, excellent results, economical price
from West Coast
Artist grade watercolors are ridiculously expensive. These Reeves watercolor paints give professional looking results for a small fraction of the price. I doubt that many artists could tell the difference between a well-executed painting done in these paints compared to one done in the much more expensive brands, and the average person would definitely not be able to tell. One reviewer mentioned that he has won awards with these paints, and I believe it.Pros: Great price. I can purchase an entire set for the price of a couple of tubes of the expensive brands.Very good transparency.Good color selection. Not as many colors as some other brands, but more than adequate and it's possible to mix any color one needs.Color intensity is very good. This is perhaps where a very discerning eye could detect a difference between Reeves and expensive brands, but it's easy enough to compensate for in one's use of the paint.Colors blend well without getting muddy if a little care is used. I regularly mix three or more colors to get just the look I want with no problems.Cons: Individual tubes are available to replace colors that run out in a set, but the individual tubes are fairly pricey. I just buy another whole set when needed, for the price of just a few individual tubes. It defeats the purpose of having individual tubes. I end up with duplicates of colors I don't use much, but it's still cheaper to do it that way.Overall, these watercolors are a great choice for beginners and hobbyists to explore watercolors on a budget with great results. They are also great for cheap artists (like me) who don't want to spend a lot more money for not a lot more quality.

Will Reorder Again
By Moon Shines Brihtly
We have shifted to using Reeves Student Watercolors in the tubes this year instead of ordering watercolors in the plastic trays. I teach basic color theory to my beginners when they are starting watercolor practice for a background for a pen-and-ink project they have completed. I teach them to mix the colors they need in plastic watercolor trays that are inside plastics cases. Once they know how to mix what they need, I monitor their first independent mix of the color when they need additional paint. Trays are reserved for cool colors and others are for warm colors. It takes only a little bit of paint placed into the well of the palette and two or three drops of purified water to create what is needed. This has been a time-saver and watercolor paint saver for us.
