Oil paints at a Great Price!!
from Fairfield, Il.
Comments about Reeves Oil Color Sets:
I have began to tole paint again after stopping for 10 years due to Multiple Sclerosis and the pain I suffer. Decided to use my mobility chair to sit in while painting, so I could try to start painting again. Have almost finished a beautiful Christmas present for my daughter's home and being on disabilty was excited to find oil paints at the cost, I found on your website. Thank youvery much & I plan on continueing buying from your company. Thanks again, Debra Halfacre
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

great for outdoor sketching
from Brooklyn, NY
These are great for outdoor sketching. Tubes are small, light to carry. With my hand-held DIY easel and these paints in a bag, don't feel weight of art supplies, while taking a long walk in the park, looking for a good spot to paint.Of course pigments are different that you'd expect from standard artist grade tubes. But one can adopt his/her workflow to these paints.

not a good choice
By oil art instructor
from manassas va
I've been teaching oil painting for 35 years. A few times students showed up with this brand, and the colors do not mix as expected. Quite simply they are mostly "filler". The students who worked with them were quickly discouraged with their results. I have several acceptable brands I recommend to my students, and this one is on my "do not purchase" list. If anyone is serious about learning how to oil paint, then the only way to get good results is to have decent paint.I rated the price as "average" only because low prices are average for low quality.Yes, other paints cost more, but you get what you pay for.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Good beginner paint
from Thousand Oaks, CA
The only reason for purchase would be to see if you or your child liked painting. And I wouldn't recommend anyone buying a second set.The eye-piercing vibrancy of these Chinese paints, which are designed for children, is not something an adult artist should learn to appreciate. I used my set for several studies, just to use it up, because I don't like waste. But, I wouldn't buy them again. Yes, for the price they provide a nice variety of paints to experiment with to see if someone likes oil painting as a medium, but if you want to learn to mix and use color or paint something you plan to care about these aren't the paints to do it with. The tube tops are delicate. In fact, pretty much made to be opened once. The crack easily. Be really careful. The color chart I did for this set gave me pretty much what I expected, a lot of strong colors, but a good range for landscape studies. These paints are stamped on the tubes manufactured in China "under license" fpr Reeves. As these are Chinese paints, it makes me question how non-toxic they are. So would I give them to my kids? Nope. Not without some gloves.Reeves was known in the UK for high-quality watercolors for over a century. That was their forte. Reeves became part of WN in the 1970s. As a brand, Reeves only started selling (keep in mind they don't manufacture) the super inexpensive Chinese-made oil paint sets about 2003.Personally, I think it's better to purchase a limited number of better quality paints, but if you know all of the above and you want to buy a set just to see if you like oil painting, that's excellent and I don't think you'd be disappointed.

Pretty good product and at a great price. But the paints are pretty thick and they literally don't dry on the canvas. Maybe this is something that happens with all oil paints (it's my first time using it) but I did my painting a few weeks ago but still if you touch it, the oil paint will end up on you too. If that happens with all oil paints then there's nothing wrong with this product. Lol.
I would buy this product again and again
from Bentonville, AR
The paints are easy to work with. I was able to mix the paints to reproduce a painting I just finished which was my first one ever
Pretty good beginner oil set
from Houston, TX
The Intro Set of 12 is a good set to start off with. The consistency was a little heavier than I imagined so I had to dilute with some Linseed oil. The undiluted parts came out pretty buttery in consistency, the diluted was bright as well. They came out glossier than what I imagined. The price is just right. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to try oil paints but does not want to invest in the artist-grades.
Nice basic starter set
from Lincoln, NE
Getting back into oils was easy with the set. I haven't used oils for 20 years but wanted to try once again. This set was inexpensive and a great value.

The best deal going.
i have compared Reeves against other student grade and also artist grade paints, and they compare quite favorably. The medium is sometimes more grainy than expensive paints, but the colours are fine, and sometimes nearly as good as the best student grade paints. For the price, this means Reeves is a steal.Do not believe those who say this paint line is only children's paint. You can do serious work with it, and you will love the colours for the price you pay.I only wish Reeves would list their pigments on the tubes.Buy this stuff and save the Old Holland for special moments when you can afford it. Or, do your own test strip and compare it to more expensive paint for colour, covering, and lightfastness........you will be surprised at how well it compares.
