Excellent colors & textural effects; don't blend well
By Georgia artist
from Columbus, GA
Comments about Reeves Large Oil Pastels:
I love the color selection, excellent in the 48-oil-pastel set, better than many other similar products. I also depend on the textural effects that occur when I use these pastels. They make a field of solid color especially interesting and painterly. The other side of that property is that they do not blend especially well when using fingers to blend. I have other, softer oil pastels that I use when I want to obtain a smooth and seamless blending of colors. The blues in this set are particularly striking, including some that are extremely dark yet distinctive. I think they are a great buy at the current price.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

A good budget pastel for sketching
By D.G. Deutsch
from New York
Reeves pastels work well for sketching on paper or canvas. They blend nicely. I've used them with oils and blend them on canvas with oil paints and mediums. They are so inexpensive that I keep a good supply of them on hand as a backup in my studio. Blending them with a superb oil medium like Holbein boosts their quality and appearance.
Lush Color Assortment that Produces Textures
from New York, NY
The colors in this assortment are lovely and they are vivid when applied. When blended (I do that with my fingers) it produces a beautiful texture on the paper. It does not blend as smoothly as some other oil pastels but then those pastels do not create a texture. I use both types to paint. I think the quality of these oil pastels is exceptional for the price here.
Good for 2nd Grade
By Ms. Hayes
from San Jose, CA
These pastels stood up well to my second grade student's first use last week. Everyone was able to easily pull out and put the pastels back in the boxes. One downside, there is a large oval opening in the cover so you can see the pastels for display, but pastels can fall out of the opening once the plastic is removed for use. NOT ideal for young people learning how to clean up after themselves.
reeves oil pastels
from los angeles
they're too expensive for me but i prefer using the reeves oil pastel as opposed to the other oil pastel brands.

My daughter loved them!
By Sheri near STL
Bought for my 13 yr old daughter. She shrieked "Awesome!" when she opened the box! She said it was just what she wanted, the same brand she uses at school and had more color choices than the packs at her school. She was really pleased!
Great set for starters (like me!)
from Dallas, Texas
I've only used another brand of oil pastels before this one, and I must say they are great, they mix properly although I found some sticks a lot harder than others, I noticed they work better on dark paper, and the tips can be sharpen enough to work out small details.overall, not the best, but good enough for studies and sketches.
I bought this product, use it and love it. However, these are not top quality pastels. On the other hand, this is a great student/starter kit for the money. Plus, you get a diverse array of shades and colors.

great pastels for the money. Strong color, blends very well.
Great Value to try out Oil Pastels
from Washington D.C.
This was a really great value for giving oil pastels a try. I had not used them before and was excited to try them. I was not disappointed when I pulled them out to use them for the first time. The Pro's for me were: There is a large assortment of color, they are easy to handle, and the color went down very smoothly. They also blended very nicely. The price was FANTASTIC!The Con's for me were: The flat end. I would have preferred a pointed end for more detailed work but that's just me. It's not enough to keep me from buying them again.
