You get what you pay for
from Boston, MA
Comments about Reeves Acrylics:
For cost reasons I decided to try a few of these instead of liquitex (i put out a large number of paintings at lower prices so i'm always looking to find ways to cut costs) Some of the colors are OK, but the Prussian Blue is literally unusable because it is all dried up and lumpy. The "brilliant red" and "deep yellow" are OK on their own, but when used for mixing become all dull and somehow desaturate anything they're mixed with? The pigments are very low quality, but I guess you get what you pay for. Better for student projects than for finished works, despite their claims at being "fine artist quality"
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Reeves Acrylic Painting Sets:
Great variety of colors for small projects as well as finding a specific color that you'll use later and being able to try it out first in a smaller tube.

Blick delivers on time with the right materials
from St. Louis Metro, Missouri
Reeves acrylics are good paint for the price, and I am happy to have found a source for single color replacements for my Reeves sets. I'm a middle range painter-- neither beginner nor professional, and am happy to discover dickblick.com online as a source for them.
Basic beginner paints
from Woodlands, TX
These are good for beginning art young art students. We use them for our Jr. High Students because they are inexpensive and give a wide variety of colors. Basic intro working small. But...for the serious artist they do not have good pigment particle quantity/quality and are not as creamy. Hues colors do not always give you accurate mixing of colors one would expect.
great starter size

I LOVE these!!!
from Holyoke, MA.
I was hesitant to get into acrylics for years as they always seemed so tacky, plastic, and unruly to me, but I've learned some tricks to make them "sit up and beg" as well as I'd like, and I find myself amazed at the textures, hues, and diversity that can be achieved through all my trial and errors, and ultimate successes with this medium. Through it all, I find myself using Reeves acrylics as the hues and sizes are the best that I've come across, and I'm so psyched that this site has them for me, as the closest art store near me stopped carrying them. I highly recommend them.
I used to be afraid of using acrylic paints because they seemed so tacky, and plastic, but over the years, I've grown to learn the different mediums, and tricks to get my paints to "sit up and obey," and I still find myself amazed at how diverse acrylic paints can be. Most of my work tends to consist of mixed media and more abstract expression, and I like to experiment with texture, mood, and color contrast. Throughout my ongoing journey to create, and fail, and rejoice, and blah blah blah I find myself coming back to Reeves as they have an amazing array of unique hues and overall quality. I'm addicted to say the least, and when my go to art store stopped carrying them, I was psyched to find them here.
Reeves 24 Acrylic Set
By Miss. NoBody
I was a bit disappointed. The reds and oranges (Brilliant Red, Vermilion, Orange) were very similar, so much so that you could interchange them. Also two of the blues (Blue Lake & Cerulean Blue Hue) were exactly the same color and thickness, infact I think they might be the same paint but in different labeled tubes. As for upswings, the paint was creamy and didn't come spilling out of the tubes upon opening them so that was good. The paint is rather translucent so that can be good if you like that kinda thing. But sadly overall I was not impressed and was rather discouraged.
