Raphaël developed the Paris Classic for the Impressionists, who asked for a brush that would offer looser and more expressive brushstrokes than traditional stiff bristle brushes. An authentic piece of 19th century art history, this brush offers today’s artist the same features that made it a favorite of the modern masters — superior, extra-white hog bristles, and soft, thick tufts that splay uniformly for expressive and generous applications of color.

I haven't begun to use it yet, but I will soon. I paint in oils and it will be a good addition to my stock of brushes which are mostly Robert Simmons.

Best brushes ever!
Best brushes I have. The short filberts are my current favorite. Great brush strokes for thick paint application.

Warning- Not made in France

As with my recent experience with Isabey bristle brushes, the Paris Classic apparently now is manufactured in Mauritius, not France. The quality has nose-dived like the Isabeys. I've actually thrown mine away with frustration at falling bristles, no shape retention and loose ferrels-two of which came off completely while cleaning. AVOID these . There are many wonderful diversions in the Indian Ocean, but making brushes apparently is not among them.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The Original Impressionist Brush

These brushes have a stiffness that reminds you of hog brushes, combined with a softness that allows it to skate sharply across the canvas, leaving a broad mark. It can be used to terrific effect and it's left a lasting impression on modernism.

I love the style of the great impressionists. These brushes don't make me into Monet, Degas, Cassatt, or Morisot but I can now leave strong brush marks on the canvas similar to these great painters. If you like a painting to look like a painting, and not a photograph, give these brushes a try.
This is a great brush! It holds its shape and hasn't shed a single hair. I love that it's not the pointed round shape.

My favorite brush is the Raphael Paris Classic short filbert #3577. Because the hairs are not interlocked, I can produce the open lace-like foliage that is special to my landscape painting. There is no other hog hair filbert like the Raphael 3577. This is what I have used for the past 28 years.
