I bought the value pack of two which came with a size 0 and a size 4 round. They are wonderful. Wasn't sure if the value pack was going to contain brushes that were defect in some way, but they are perfect. They can both do the finest detail and hold plenty of water. Would highly recommend, I will be buying more.

Hands down, the best brush I have used. The correct size for almost any job I need to do, from fine details to open areas. Fantasic coverage and always holds te right amount of paint and water for each stroke. I am getting this brush again.

I've tried almost every other sable brush, and none are as good as the Raphael. I use acrylic paint on miniature models. The way the brush holds the paint and the level of detail I can achieve with each stroke is fantastic; however, this would be a waste of money to use with heavy body acrylics. I thin my paint to watercolor consistency.

I ordered a size 2 and 3 a year ago and I was amazed at the sharp tip they produced and how much ink it can hold. then, 3 weeks ago,I ordered a size four (since I like big brushes). And it was like a brush made from HEAVEN. it produced crisp lines, held a TON of ink, and is as big as a W&N series 7 size 5, yet with better quality. I HIGHLY recommend these brushes. Keep the great job going, Raphael!

These are the brushes I ordered for my boyfriend since I kept stealing all the good brushes we had around the house. Well since the W&N ones I ordered for myself turned out to be junk I tried out one of his and Oooh Myyyy they are amazing. They are exactly what I wanted those other brushes to be like. They hold an amazing amount of paint and they have a nice tip on them which actually can paint detail work. They are smooooooooth while painting a little pressure will take you a long way. The paint goes on evenly and there are no brush stroke lines just like it should. These brushes will improve your paint jobs because they are made of magic. I also like these because the bristles are longer than the current ones i've been using and it make it easier to paint the nooks and crannies on miniatures. A size 0 is the perfect 'paint all' brush it's just small & large enough for most projects.
So of course I had to order more for myself since I have a bunch of big projects coming up.
I only wish the handle was fatter but I might go out and buy some of those fat pencil grips and stick them on the brushes.

Raphael 8404 Martre Kolinsky Brush is the most important tool let me complete a good watercolor portrait painting. The brush can carry a good amount of water and pigment to paint without many times of recharge; it make painting smooth and loose. Please see my attached portrait paintings example.

I haven't been using this number 3 and 4 very long, but so far they 'feel' like quality compared to what I was using. I reserve judgment related to longevity for a later date. They arrived in pristine condition, and I appreciated that because they were costly. I like them well enough, so far, that I would purchase 'other sizes' of Raphael brushes in the future. If they hold up with extensive 'use' then I will really be impressed.

Using a brush to ink comics is a challenging prospect, but the Raphael #4 is excellent for the job. I decided to purchase this brush after reading a number of successful comics artists used it, as well as being recommended it by some professors and peers.

I finally purchased this brush after weeks of using a Winsor Newton Cotman series, which is nice, but really has no comparison to the Raphael. The hair on the brush allows for precise control of your strokes and line weight, and the size is enough to let you get tiny details, or spot blacks efficiently.

This brush literally has changed some of my drawing techniques and allowed me to enhance my work much better than the other brushes I have used, and I am pleased so much more with my art.

I have used other kolinsky brushes before, and while I wouldn't go so far to say that the Raphael is better than all of them, it is definitely a contender both in quality and price.

I've had a size 10 of this brush for more than ten years, my very best round watercolor brush for marks of all kinds. I've now fulfilled my desire for a larger brush with the same qualities, and I'm thrilled with my #12. I've had brushes made by other excellent companies, but, for me, Raphael 8404 is the very best.
